Engineered plants

The most commonly used index is the chemical engineering plant cost index published in Chemical Engineering Magazine.

Table 9-42 presents information on some cost indices for the United States. Engineering News-Record updates its construction-cost index in March, June, September, and December. The Oil and Gas Journal gives the Nelson-Farrar refinery indices in the first issue of each quarter. The Chemical Engineering plant-cost index and Marshall and Swift equipment-cost index are given in each issue of the pubhcation Chemical Engineering. Derivation of the base values is referred to in the respective publications.

For feasibility studies on chemical plants, the Chemical Engineering Plant Index is recommended. However, if extensive civil work is being estimated, the ENR Index will be applicable. 

Epoxide resins reinforced with carbon and Aramid fibres have been used in small boats, where it is claimed that products of equal stiffness and more useable space may be produced with a 40% saving in weight over traditional polyester/ glass fibre composites. Aramid fibre-reinforced epoxide resins have been developed in the United States to replace steel helmets for military purposes. Printed circuit board bases also provide a substantial outlet for epoxide resins. One recent survey indicates that over one-quarter of epoxide resin production in Western Europe is used for this application. The laminates also find some use in chermical engineering plant and in tooling. 

The volume represents the initial fulfillment of a series, and is aimed at assisting process engineers, plant managers, environmental consultants, water treatment plant operators, and students. Subsequent volumes are intended to cover air pollution controls, and solid waste management and minimization.

The non-storage oscilloscope can be found in most electronic test situations, from sophisticated research laboratories to production engineering plants. The storage unit is most widely used in medical work and in electromechanical applications, particularly where very high-speed transients need to be recorded, while, as noted above, the sampling type finds its main use in the evaluation of ultra-high-frequency equipment.
