Chemical Engineering plant cost index

The most commonly used index is the chemical engineering plant cost index published in Chemical Engineering Magazine. [Pg.417]

Table 9-42 presents information on some cost indices for the United States. Engineering News-Record updates its construction-cost index in March, June, September, and December. The Oil and Gas Journal gives the Nelson-Farrar refinery indices in the first issue of each quarter. The Chemical Engineering plant-cost index and Marshall and Swift equipment-cost index are given in each issue of the pubhcation Chemical Engineering. Derivation of the base values is referred to in the respective publications. [Pg.861]

Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index [42]. Probably the most commonly used cost adjusting index printed/updated monthly is in Chemical Engineering Magazine send has established continuity over many years. Its breakdo vn component costs apply to plants and plant equipment/systems. [Pg.47]

Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index and Marshall and Sivift (M S) Equipment Cost Index appear regularly in Chem.ical Engineeiing. [Pg.50]

The year chosen as a base is one that is close to normal. War years and periods of inflation or depression are avoided. The Marshall and Swift Index uses 1926 as a base. The Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index uses an average of 1957-1959, and the Construction Cost Index uses 1913. [Pg.238]

The Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index (CEPI) in 1969 was 119.0. The CEPI in March, 1971, was 129.9. It will be assumed that for a plant to be completed by October, 1974, on the average all costs can be figured on an index for March, 1974,... [Pg.264]

Many different types of cost indexes are published regularly. Some of these can be used for estimating equipment costs others apply specifically to labor, construction, materials, or other specialized fields. The most common of these indexes are the Marshall and Swift all-industry and process-industry equipment indexes, the Engineering News-Record construction index, the Nelsotl-Fatrar refinery construction index, and the Chemical Engineering plant cost index. Table 3 presents a list of values for various types of indexes over the past 15 years. [Pg.164]

For use with process-equipment estimates and chemical-plant investment estimates, the Marshall and Swift equipment cost indexes and the Chemical Engineering plant cost indexes are recommended. These two cost indexes give very similar results, while the Engineering News-Record construction cost index, relative with time, has increased much more rapidly than the other two because it does not include a productivity improvement factor. Similarly, the Nelson-Farrar refinery construction index has shown a very large increase with time and should be used with caution and only for refinery construction. [Pg.166]

Approximate fixed capital cost with the chemical engineering plant cost index = 420. bS/T shell and tube. [Pg.311]

Since this formula is assumed for the same time period and location, the results must be adjusted by using an escalation index such as Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index. [Pg.111]

All costs have been escalated to approximately the first quarter of 2001 using a chemical engineering Plant Cost Index of 420. [Pg.423]

All costs have been updated and projected to early 2001 using the Chemical Engineering plant cost index of 420 which projects approximately to the first quarter of 2001. [Pg.488]

A composite index for the United States process plant industry is published monthly in the journal Chemical Engineering this is the Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index (CEPCI), usually referred to as the CE index. Chemical Engineering also publishes the Marshall and Swift index (M S equipment cost index). [Pg.324]

Similarity involves estimating the cost of a pilot plant from the cost to design and construct a similar unit. This method produces excellent results if the units are almost identical. Differences due to inflation can be accoimted for reasonably through a published cost index, such as the Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index. [Pg.2159]
