Most process plant engineers utilize some form of preprinted pump calculation worksheet or a computer to aid in the coUection of information. [Pg.288]

Equipment Selection Ideally, selection of equipment to produce a gas-in-hquid dispersion should be made on the basis of a complete economic analysis. The design engineer and especially the pilot-plant engineer seldom have sufficient information or time to do... [Pg.1422]

This would be induced or caused by operation, if the plant operators strangle valves to control production tlow. Any other discharge flow restriction (clogged filter, pipe obstruction, or tin-calibrated automatic valve) would produce the same evidence. Talk with the plant engineer about this situation and show him the evidence on the pump. [Pg.137]

The units have been disassembled for maintenanee by plant engineering personnel on a seheduled 3-year basis. Although a preventive maintenanee philosophy was used where others might have opted to employ the predietive maintenanee approaeh, the maehines have operated well with an on-stream faetor in exeess of 99%. [Pg.444]

Personnel must be sent to manufaeturer-eondueted sehools. These sehools, in turn, should be eneouraged to eover some basie maehinery prineiples as well as their own maehinery. In-house seminars should be provided with in-house personnel and eonsultants at the plant. Engineers should be sent to various sehools so that they may be exposed to the latest teehnology. [Pg.733]

Process flow reduction should be targeted and must be in such a way that it will not impact upon the operation of the process or plant. The normal first response by a plant engineer is that air flow reduction cannot be done. However, subsequent investigation has resulted in that most of the time flow reduction can be done. This should be a significant area to focus on when conducting a pollution prevention audit. [Pg.474]

The plant engineer who took the telephone call said that the shell side was clean and therefore entering it would be safe. He was not told that the workers were going into it to grind out some of the tubes. [Pg.23]

Plant engineering is that branch of engineering which embraces the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, modernization, and protection of physical facilities and equipment used to produce a product or provide a service. [Pg.3]

It is easier to describe plant engineering than to define it. Yet, the descriptions will vary from facility to facility and over time. Every successful plant is continuously changing, improving, expanding, and evolving. And the activities of the plant engineer must reflect this environment. Each plant engineer is likely to have his own, unique job description, and that description is likely to be different from the one he had five years earlier. [Pg.3]

By definition, the plant engineering function is multidisciplinary. It routinely incorporates the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and civil engineering. Other disciplines, such as chemical engineering for example, may also be needed, depending on the type of industry or service involved. [Pg.3]

If the plant engineer is a specialist in anything, it is in his/her own plant or facility. Plant engineers must learn to know their own plants thoroughly, from the geology underlying its foundations and the topology of the rainwater runoff to the distribution of its electricity and the eccentricities of its production machinery. They must ensure the quality of the environment both inside... [Pg.3]
