In closure we note that here we have only discussed the impact of a change of the rate of SLR on coastline evolution and not the impacts associated with other climate change driven impacts such changes in regional hurricane or typhoon climates, changes in dominant wave direction, storm frequency and intensity, and ENSO, NAOs, and SOI oscillations (cf. the chapter by Komar et al. and Ref. 43), which may have local and/or regional impacts as important as or even exceeding the impact due to SLR alone.

The impact of Ice Storm 98 was unprecedented in Canadian electric power system history. The Ontario Hydro Report provides a chronology of the twenty-three major storms that have impacted the system since 1942. The rainwater runoff from buildings depends on the geographical location and storm-return period specified. Rainwater runoff from a roof is relatively clean and can discharge directly to a watercourse, lake, etc. without passing through an interceptor. 

No liquid waste can be disposed of directly into the environment or into a storm sewer system. Unless collected and handed over to a waste disposal company, it goes into the sanitary sewer. There are specific rules concerning the quality of what may be disposed of in this manner. Materials that are routinely sent to the sewer from a home may not be permissible from a commercial source. Normally accepted waste water rules are often made more restrictive by local ordinance. 

A variety of other clinically important infections, such as brucellosis, listeriosis, salmonellosis, and various Mycobacterium infections, are of interest as these are often localized in organs rich in MPS cells. Liposome encapsulation has been demonstrated to improve therapeutic indices of several drugs in a number of infectious models. The natural avidity of macrophages for liposomes can also be exploited in the application of the vesicles as carriers of immunomodulators to activate these cells to an microbicidal, antiviral, or tumoricidal state. These studies were recently reviewed by Emmen and Storm (1987), Popescu et al. (1987), and Alving (1988). In addition to the treatment of "old" infectious diseases, the concept of MPS-directed drug delivery is of considerable interest for the therapy AIDS, possibly enabling control of human immunodeficiency virus replication in human macrophages.

MTBE has been detected nationwide in soil and groundwater. Federal and state studies have found that MTBE contamination has reached drinking water sources in many locations, including areas where the use of oxygenated fuel has not been mandated.9 This MTBE contamination has also been documented in surface water bodies resulting from direct spills, storm water runoff, and emissions from watercraft. The major release of chlordecone to sediments, however, occurred indirectly as a result of waste water discharges, runoff of contaminated soil, and direct disposal of solid wastes at a production facility in Hopewell, Virginia. An estimated 10,000-30,000 kg (22,000-66,100 lb) of chlordecone is associated with bottom sediment in the James River estuary (Huggett and Bender 1980 Nichols 1990). This sediment serves as a reservoir for future release of chlordecone via resuspension of sediments resulting from storms or dredging activities (Lunsford et al. 1987). 

The biological effects observed at tumour sites indicate that BsMAbs effectively penetrate tissue. However, trials are limited by the toxicity caused by induction of a cytokine storm or by the complex pharmacokinetics. Furthermore, T-cell directed BsMAb approaches are hindered by difficulties in mobilizing and activating T and NK effector cells. Recent attention, therefore, has focused on BsMAbs which target myeloid effectors [79]. 

In addition to these effluent standards, the EPA has also established separate BPT, BAT, BCT, and NSPS standards for ballast water and BPT, BAT, and BCT standards for contaminated storm water (40 CFR Part 419). Once-through cooling water is allowed for direct discharge if the total organic carbon concentration does not exceed 5 mg/L.
