A data set can be split into a training set and a test set randomly or according to a specific rule. The 1293 compounds were divided into a training set of 741 compounds and a test set ot 552 compounds, based on their distribution in a K.NN map. Note that the form of development of these systems from left to right remains approximately constant over the range of sizes sampled (8 < iV < 16), which may therefore represent characteristic signatures of behavior by which specific rules evolving larger systems may be identified. This branch of bioinformatics is concerned with computational approaches to predict and analyse the spatial structure of proteins and nucleic acids. The corrosion allowance is the additional thickness of metal added to allow for material lost by corrosion and erosion, or scaling (see Chapter 7).
