Developability optimization

Databases differ in their strengths and weaknesses, as well as in their focus. As a result, dupHcate searches carried out on different databases generally produce different results. This has been demonstrated in comparative studies of retrieval results for a group of patent databases (31,32). Participants in one study (31) made an effort to develop optimal search strategies in each database tested, yet in no instance did one file produce perfect retrieval. Both investigations (31,32) found that results from the various databases complemented each other. As a result, searchers are counseled to use multiple databases whenever possible. There is no pat answer to the question of how many files to use or which files to use however, more files mean more expenditure, and searchers must develop their own cost—benefit relationship. [Pg.60]

After drying in a stream of cold air the chromatogram is immersed in the reagent solution for 1 s and heated to 70 —75°C for 3 — 5 min (until the color develops optimal intensity). Red-colored zones are usually formed on a white background occasionally, however, yellow to brown chromatogram zones, which gradually fade, are formed on a white to pale yellow background [1],... [Pg.386]

The major issue for the large scale preparation of our target 1 was the preparation of the cyclopentanone 2. With the exception of 2, we felt the original Medicinal route was suitable for the large scale preparation with standard development optimization. Thus, the outline of this section is ... [Pg.47]

Use of early YFP variants, for example EYFP, suffered from several disadvantages, since they did not express well at 37 °C, were sensitive to photobleaching and to environmental factors, for example pH and Cl- concentration [65-69]. The recently developed optimized YFP variants Venus and SYFP2 have overcome most of... [Pg.195]

As mentioned earlier, biological systems have developed optimized strategies to design materials with elaborate nanostructures [6]. A straightforward approach to obtaining nanoparticles with controlled size and organization should therefore rely on so-called biomimetic syntheses where one aims to reproduce in vitro the natural processes of biomineralization. In this context, a first possibility is to extract and analyze the biological (macro)-molecules that are involved in these processes and to use them as templates for the formation of the same materials. Such an approach has been widely developed for calcium carbonate biomimetic synthesis [13]. In the case of oxide nanomaterials, the most studied system so far is the silica shell formed by diatoms [14]. [Pg.160]

A variety of optical oxygen sensor systems have been developed for applications such as biomedical, environmental and process control . But very few of them have been critically assessed for their suitability for food packaging applications. It has been proven that substantial development, optimization and redesign of the oxygen-sensitive materials and fabrication processes are required for the oxygen sensors to match practical requirements for these applications5. In particular, specific requirements of food applications are ... [Pg.505]

In contrast to the biopharmaceuticals discussed thus far (recombinant proteins and gene therapy products), antisense oligonucleotides are manufactured by direct chemical synthesis. Organic synthetic pathways have been developed, optimized and commercialized for some time, as oligonucleotides are widely used reagents in molecular biology. They are required as primers, probes and for the purposes of site-directed mutagenesis. [Pg.451]

Most of the work on ethanol reforming to date focused mainly on catalyst development, optimization of reaction operations and thermodynamic analyses. However, detailed kinetic studies, which are very useful to understand the activity at the molecular level and to build a suitable catalytic reactor on an industrial scale for the reforming of ethanol need to be pursued. [Pg.101]

A strategy for the enantioseparation of basic compounds was described by SokolieP and Koller [35] and is displayed in Figure 3.7. All steps from method development till validation are included in the flow chart. Perhaps a disadvantage in this approach is that sequential screening and optimization steps are used (i.e., every factor is optimized individually). The use of the developed scheme was demonstrated for one compound, for which the method was developed, optimized, and validated. The generic applicability of this approach was not considered and is unknown. [Pg.188]

An MEKC method for the determination of ibuprofen, codeine phosphate hemihydrate, their nine potential degradation products, and impurities in a commercial tablet formulation was developed, optimized, and fully validated according to ICH guidelines and submitted to the regulatory authorities. The optimized system containing ACN as organic modifier allowed baseline separation of ibuprofen, codeine, and nine related substances within 12 min. [Pg.286]

Of course, the pharmaceutical industry is not the only sector in which process engineering is needed to enhance national security and homeland defense. Also, other areas of process engineering such as model development, optimization schemes, on-line control, catalyst development, new separation methods, biomass conversion, and models using multiple length scales are equally important to include in research efforts. [Pg.28]

When these methods are unsuitable, nonlinear methods may be applied. The function local minima and overall computational efficiency. The function (u) is often expensive to compute, so maximum advantage must accrue from each evaluation of it. To this end, numerous methods have been developed. Optimization is a field of ongoing research. No one single method is best for all types of problem. Where (u) is a sum of squares, as we have expressed it, and where derivatives dQ>/dvl are available, the method of Marquardt (1963) and its variants are perhaps best. Other methods may be desirable where constraints are to be applied to the vt, or where (u) cannot be formulated as a sum of... [Pg.32]

In the author s opinion, the situation just described is not an unavoidable consequence of the intrinsic complexity of pharmaceutical products. In fact, other industries with products that are equally complex (e.g., microelectronics) have developed and implemented predictive methods for product and process development, optimization, and control, capable of much higher quality standards (as defined by allowed variability in product functionality) than the pharmaceutical industry. Rather, current practices in the industry... [Pg.60]

To achieve optimal sensitivity and selectivity, it was necessary to develop three totally separate methods, one for each compound. Initially, it was necessary to develop, optimize, and calibrate a procedure for quantitating each analyte. With these steps successfully completed, candidate collection media were screened in tests designed to find a material with three attributes (1) an acceptable sorption capacity for the appropriate... [Pg.50]

Current distribution studies have also been used to develop optimal loading gradients for compounds within a PEM fuel cell. Santis et al.174 utilized a segmented plate design with Hall-effect sensors... [Pg.165]

The asymmetric catalytic Strecker reaction is an elegant means of synthesis of optically active a-amino acids. The Jacobsen group developed optimized organocata-lysts [21, 44-48], optically active urea or thiourea derivatives, which were found to be the most efficient type of catalyst yet for asymmetric hydrocyanation of imines (see also Section 5.1 on the hydrocyanation of imines). Because of its high efficiency, Jacobsen hydrocyanation technology has already been used commercially at Rodia ChiRex [49]. The concept of the reaction is shown in Scheme 14.7. In the presence of a catalytic amount (2 mol%) of the readily available organocatalyst... [Pg.401]

Methods will be developed, optimized, validated, and documented properly to serve the purpose at each point in the development process. [Pg.397]

The mix ratio of anhydride to epoxy resin is less critical than with amines and can vary from 0.5 to 0.9 equivalent of epoxy. The specific ratio is generally determined experimentally to achieve desired properties. Compared to aliphatic amine cures, the exotherm generated by anhydride cured epoxies is low. Elevated-temperature cures up to 200°C and postcures are required to develop optimal properties. [Pg.101]
