Containment research

The U.S. - Australia Symposium on Radiation Effects on Polymeric Materials contained research presentations on fundamental radiation chemistry and physics as well as on technological applications of polymer irradiation. This paper represents a hybrid contribution of these two areas, examining a field of extensive technological importance. When is it permissible to deny some benefits, or put some subjects at risk, for the sake of research and the benefits it promises For example, when is it permissible to perform cost-containment research, and what type of peer review and informed consent is necessary ° This is particularly relevant for pharmacists because many are involved in this type of data collection and analysis. It is possible that some subjects may receive a lower standard of care than that to which they are accustomed. Some unsolved problems remain in the critical behaviour of sol-gel transition. Those are, the relations between different exponents, the exponent and molecular mechanism, and so on. Nevertherless, the applicability of power law to several physical properties, the analogy between sol-gel, liquid-gas, ferromagnet transitions, the relevance to the volume phase transition of gel(Tanaka, 2011), these matters contain research objects of much interests.

Basic laboratory courses taken by students in biomedical science programs are a good way to introduce safety issues. Unfortunately, laboratory courses containing research safety and biosafety topics are not as common as they should be. Perhaps such training will become more readily available in the future. But for now, many students who have had only brief exposure to safety issues go on to responsible positions in industry or academia.
