Peers review

The Beilstein database [20] has more than 8.3 million (October, 2002) organic substance records from the Beilstein Handbook and abstracted from about 180 journals in organic chemistry from 1779 to the present. AH documents are critically evaluated and peer-reviewed. 

If users are inexperienced in searching for information, they should first consult search engines, meta-databases or portals (Table 5-6). Searchers who are familiar with databases may consult known databases (numeric databases, bibliographic databases, etc.) directly, being aware that they might miss new data sources (see Section 5.18). The reliability and quality of data are only given in peer-reviewed data sources.

You should consider obtaining internal and external quality assurance reviews of the study (to ferret out errors in modeling, data, etc.). Independent peer reviews of the QRA results can be helpful by presenting alternate viewpoints, and you should include outside experts (either consultants or personnel from another plant) on the QRA review panel. You should also set up a mechanism wherein disputes between QRA team members (e.g., technical arguments about safety issues) can be voiced and reconciled. All of these factors play an essential role in producing a defendable, high-quality QRA. Once the QRA is complete, you must formally document your response to the project team s final report and any recommendations it contains. 

An interesting, broad-spectrum journal founded in 1997 by Roy is Materials Research Innovations., one of its objectives is to bypass normal methods of editorial scrutiny submitting authors who have published a sufficient number of papers in other, peer-reviewed, journals are assumed, in effect, to have reviewed themselves. 

Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB) on compact disc from the Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety (can buy at CCOHS web site). "The HSDB(R) (Hazardous Substances Data Bank(R)) database contains data profiles on 4,500 potentially toxic chemical substances. It is created and updated by specialists at the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Compiled from an extensive range of authoritative sources, HSDB is widely recognized as a reliable and practical source of health and safety information. Much of the data is peer reviewed.

For a report of this magnitude, confidence in the correctness of the result can only coinc i rom a systematic and deep peer review process. The peer review process of WASH-1400 was dofccii ve in many ways and the review was inadequate.

For the results reported in both Table 7.2-3 and Table 7.2-4, the only reported detail concerning the ionic liquid was that it was [EMIM][C1-A1C13]. No details of the aluminium(III) chloride content were forthcoming. As with most of the work presented in this chapter, data are taken from the patent literature and not from peer reviewed journals, and so many experimental details are not available. This lack of clear reporting complicates issues for the synthetic polymer chemist. Simpler and cheaper chloroaluminate(III) ionic liquids prepared by using cations derived from the reaction between a simple amine and hydrochloric acid (e.g., Me3N-E3Cl and... 

Since these PM standards were established, the EPA has reviewed peer-reviewed scientific studies that suggest that significant health effects occur at concentrations below the 1987 standards. In addition, some studies attributed adverse health effects to particles smaller than 10 microns. In July 1997, the EPA, under the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), added standards for particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 microns or less (PM, ). The annual PM, 5 standard was set at 15 pg/ni and the 24-hour PMj standard was set at 65 p.g/m .

International Chemical Safety Cards on the relevant chemical(s) are attached at the end of the CICAD, to provide the reader with concise information on the protection of human health and on emergency action. They are produced in a separate peer-reviewed procedure at IPCS. CICADs are concise documents that provide summaries of the relevant scientific information concerning the potential effects of chemicals upon human health and/or the environment. The Steering Group will also advise IPCS on the appropriate form of the document (i.e. a standard CICAD or a de novo CICAD) and which institution bears the responsibility of the document production, as well as on the type and extent of the international peer review. 

Depending on the oomplexity and extent of oontroversy of the issues involved, the steering group may advise on different levels of peer review ...

Static mixers are typically less effective in turbulent flow than an open tube when the comparison is made on the basis of constant pressure drop or capital cost. Whether laminar or turbulent, design correlations are generally lacking or else are vendor-proprietary and are rarely been subject to peer review.
