Quality control containers

Liquid Dosage Forms. Simple aqueous solutions, syrups, elixirs, and tinctures are prepared by dissolution of solutes in the appropriate solvent systems. Adjunct formulation ingredients include certified dyes, flavors, sweeteners, and antimicrobial preservatives. These solutions are filtered under pressure, often using selected filtering aid materials. The products are stored in large tanks, ready tor tilling into containers. Quality control analysis is then performed. [Pg.1264]

Homogeneity of data. Homogeneous data will be uniform in structure and composition, usually possible to describe with a fixed number of parameters. Homogeneous data is encountered in simple NDT inspection, e.g. quality control in production. Inhomogeneous data will contain various combinations of indications from construction elements, defects and noise sources. An example of inhomogenous data are ultrasonic B-scan images as described in [Hopgood, 1993] or as encountered in the ultrasonic rail-inspection system described later in this paper. [Pg.98]

Complex environmental samples originate from diverse matrices (the predominant material of which the sample to be analyzed is composed). These matrices, usually either water or soil/sediment, can contain as many as 50 to 100 organic components at widely varying concentrations. The EPA approach to the analysis of these samples involves the analysis of specific (or target) compounds and the use of authentic standards for quality control. The current number of standards in the EPA repository is about 1500, and their analysis is covered by various approved methods. [Pg.295]

Specifications, Standards, Quality Control, and Health and Safety Factors. The hardboard industry is represented by the American Hardboard Association (AHA). Specifications and standards are contained in several ANSI standards (8—11). These standards define the various hardboard product categories as well as specific product qualities required for each group. [Pg.390]

Grades, Quality Control. Fluorspar is marketed ia several grades metallurgical fluorspar (metspar) is sold as gravel, lump, or briquettes. The minimum acceptable assay is 60% effective calcium fluoride. The effective value is determined by subtracting from the contained calcium fluoride 2.5% for every percent of Si02 found ia the complete analysis apparently based on the following stoichiometry (1) ... [Pg.174]

The components of a quality assurance program are designed to serve the two functions just mentioned—control and assessment. Quality control operations are defined by operational procedures, specifications, calibration procedures, and standards and contain the following components ... [Pg.223]

Although, even today, vacancy chromatography is rarely used in analytical laboratories generally, there are a number of applications where it appears it might be very useful. The technique, that was suggested by Zhukhovitski for quality control is a particularly interesting application. Consider a pharmaceutical product that contains... [Pg.201]

In particular, standard specimens contain a sharp notch so that it is propagation energy rather than initiation energy which is the dominant factor. In general the standard tests are useful for quality control and specification purposes but not... [Pg.152]

BWRs do not operate with dissolved boron like a PWR but use pure, demineralized water with a continuous water quality control system. The reactivity is controlled by the large number of control rods (>100) containing burnable neutron poisons, and by varying the flow rate through the reactor for normal, fine control. Two recirculation loops using variable speed recirculation pumps inject water into the jet pumps inside of the reactor vessel to increase the flow rate by several times over that in the recirculation loops. The steam bubble formation reduces the moderator density and... [Pg.211]

A failure modes and effects analysis is a systematic analytical technique for identifying potential failures in a design or a process, assessing the probability of occurrence and likely effect, and determining the measures needed to eliminate, contain, or control the effects. Action taken on the basis of an FMEA will improve safety, performance, reliability, maintainability and reduce costs. The outputs are essential to balanced and effective quality plans for both development and production as it will help focus the controls upon those products, processes, and characteristics that are at risk. It is not the intention here to give a full appreciation of the FMEA technique and readers are advised to consult other texts. [Pg.465]

The quality control of PVC, plasticizers, and additives must be done according to certain standards. In the case of making the blending material for medical uses, medical grade PVC, which contains <3 ppm vinylchloride monomers, should be used. [Pg.141]

In a modern industrialised society the analytical chemist has a very important role to play. Thus most manufacturing industries rely upon both qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis to ensure that the raw materials used meet certain specifications, and also to check the quality of the final product. The examination of raw materials is carried out to ensure that there are no unusual substances present which might be deleterious to the manufacturing process or appear as a harmful impurity in the final product. Further, since the value of the raw material may be governed by the amount of the required ingredient which it contains, a quantitative analysis is performed to establish the proportion of the essential component this procedure is often referred to as assaying. The final manufactured product is subject to quality control to ensure that its essential components are present within a pre-determined range of composition, whilst impurities do not exceed certain specified limits. The semiconductor industry is an example of an industry whose very existence is dependent upon very accurate determination of substances present in extremely minute quantities. [Pg.3]

Once the proteins have passed the quality control system of the early secretory pathway, they are transported in vesicles via the individual compartments of the Golgi apparatus to the plasma membrane. Soluble proteins are transported in the vesicle lumen, membrane proteins are integrated in the vesicle membrane. The transport to the cell surface is the default pathway for secretory and membrane proteins. Proteins may also become part of one of the intracellular compartments along the secretory pathway, but only if they contain specific retention signals. [Pg.1017]

The accuracy of a method can only be determined if the true answer is known and, of course, for the majority of analyses it is not. The accuracy of a method is determined during its validation procedure by the analysis of samples containing known amounts of analyte. In order to ensure that the method accuracy is maintained during routine use, samples containing known amounts of analyte are analysed among the unknowns as part of a quality control regime [12, 13]. [Pg.43]

A quality control laboratory had a certain model of HPLC in operation. One of the products that was routinely run on the instrument contained two compounds, A and B, that were quantitated in one run at the same detector wavelength setting. At an injection volume of 20 /tL, both compounds showed linear response. The relatively low absorption for compound B resulted in an uncertainty that was just tolerable, but an improvement was sought. [Pg.277]

In the Phadebas TM amylase test (72) (Pharmacia Labs) the substrate was a water insoluble cross-TTnked blue starch in tablet form which also contains some inert ingredients, sodium and potassium phosphate buffer salts and sodium chloride. This polymer was hydrolyzed by amylase into water soluble blue starch fragments. After centrifugation the absorbance of the blue supernatant was proportional to the activity of amylase present in the test samples. The day to day variation on a quality control serum had a coefficient of variation of 2.7% based on 30 days of data in our laboratory. The method is simple, reproducible and uses microquantities of serum. [Pg.210]

Pharmaceutical products are used in a variety of ways in the prevention, treatment and diagnosis of disease, hi recent years, manufacturers of pharmaceuticals have improved the quality of non-sterile products such that today the majority contain only a minimal microbial population. Nevertheless, a few rogue products with an unacceptable level and type of contamination will occasionally escape the quality control net and when used may, ironically, contribute to the spread of disease in patients. [Pg.374]

Quality control tests or improvement of existing processes. Raw materials from various sources can be used in the manufacture of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. The raw materials can contain different impurities at various concentrations. Therefore, before the raw material is purchased and used in a full-scale batch its quality should be tested in a small-scale reactor. Existing full-scale procedures are subject to continuous modifications for troubleshooting and for improving process performance. Laboratory reactors used for tests of these two kinds are usually down-scaled reactors or reactors being a part of the full scale-reactor. [Pg.293]
