Analysis of effects

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) divides the health effects of toxic chemicals into two broad categories for risk-assessment purposes risk of noncancer (noncarcinogenic) health effects and risk of cancer (carcinogenic risk) (Chapter 7). The same analysis of exposure is used for both noncarcinogenic and carcinogenic risk however, the relationship of exposure to effect is analyzed differently for noncancer and carcinogenic risks. [Pg.142]

The osteoporotic studies are now being extended to analysis of effects of a variety of widely used therapies compared with the properties existing in age-matched controls that did not have osteoporosis. Analyses of multiple sites in biopsies from larger numbers of women and men with osteoporosis showed a decrease in mineral matrix ratio, an increase in crystallinity, and an increase in collagen maturity.12-15 Hormone replacement therapy15 and parathyroid hormone16 shift the osteoporotic bone closer... [Pg.241]

EC/Dx Concentration (dose) that affects designated effect criterion (e.g., a behavioral trait) by x% compared to the control. The EC/D50 is known as the median effective concentration (dose). The EC/D values and their 95% confidence limits are usually derived by statistical analysis of effects in several test concentrations, after a fixed period of exposure. The duration of exposure must be specified (e.g., 96-hour EC50). See also LC/Dx. [Pg.219]

In the following section, the detailed analysis of effective Hall properties of a 3D two-component composite will be carried out based on the fractal structure model and the iterative averaging method. [Pg.189]

The analysis of effective conductivity for a 3D composite with a random structure becomes more complicated if II / 0 because for H = 0 the effective conductivity depends on only two parameters volume concentration p and conductivity ratio x of the components (x = CT2/CT1). If II / 0, however, the effective conductivity depends on four parameters (x, p) mentioned above, H and the mobility ratio y = ij/p2-... [Pg.190]
