Container Specification

In choosing a container, one must be aware of agency requirements (such as those of DOT in CFR Titles 21 and 49) and of other requirements specific to the contents. Most container manufacturers can help to answer the following questions  [Pg.97]

A Special liner will often be used to protect the container from corrosion or the stored material from contamination. However, the liner itself must not contaminate or react with the material being stored. The possible effects of liner failure must be considered  [Pg.98]

The integrity of welded stmctures depends on the integrity of the welds, and much attention is given to testing methods, such as destmctive tests, nondestmctive tests, and general weld inspection. An objective of many tests is to determine whether welds contain specific defects, such as porosity, slag inclusions, cracks, or lack of fusion (14,15). [Pg.349]

In drawing contracts and making acceptance tests, refer to the pertinent ASTM standards. ASTM Standards contain specifications (classifications) and test methods for burner fuels (D 396), motor and aviation gasolines (D 4814 and D 910), diesel fuels (D 975), and avia-... [Pg.2362]

Proteins are usually separated into two distinct functional classes passive structural materials, which are built up from long fibers, and active components of cellular machinery in which the protein chains are arranged in small compact domains, as we have discussed in earlier chapters. In spite of their differences in structure and function, both these classes of proteins contain a helices and/or p sheets separated by regions of irregular structure. In most cases the fibrous proteins contain specific repetitive amino acid sequences that are necessary for their specific three-dimensional structure. [Pg.283]

Fibrous proteins are long-chain polymers that are used as structural materials. Most contain specific repetitive amino acid sequences and fall into one of three groups coiled-coil a helices as in keratin and myosin triple helices as in collagen and p sheets as in silk and amyloid fibrils. [Pg.297]

It also contains specific requirements for testing of flame arresters in equipment such as compressors, blowers, fans, and vacuum pumps. Procedures are presented for deflagration, detonation, and burning tests for all the flame arrester types in the standard. [Pg.160]

Most standard forms of contract contain specific procedures for determination, and these should be rigidly adhered to. For example, the contract document may lay down that the contractor be given 14 days notice in writing to rectify his progress before determination is carried out. Any letters should be sent by recorded delivery or served by hand. While liquidated or non-liquidated damages can be claimed with respect to late or incomplete work, expense claims usually follow the events shown below, which are also mentioned in Section 8.24 ... [Pg.95]

These are Osually mineral oils of medium or low viscosity, which contain specific coirrorion inhibitors arid.anti-Qxidants In spite of the relatively low protective properties of the fluid films, which are not nearly so great as those, Of the previouriy described solid films, these materials have an established field of useon the internal surfaces of tririks and assembled mechanisms, and where solid material or solvent cannot be tolerated. ... [Pg.757]

Once the proteins have passed the quality control system of the early secretory pathway, they are transported in vesicles via the individual compartments of the Golgi apparatus to the plasma membrane. Soluble proteins are transported in the vesicle lumen, membrane proteins are integrated in the vesicle membrane. The transport to the cell surface is the default pathway for secretory and membrane proteins. Proteins may also become part of one of the intracellular compartments along the secretory pathway, but only if they contain specific retention signals. [Pg.1017]

The environment of these systems can be rigidly controlled and systematically varied (eg, ion concentrations). The systems can also be exposed to known ligands if, for example, the liposomes contain specific receptor proteins. [Pg.421]

The presence of Increased eunounts of NDPA in trlfluralin was observed In a matter 6f days In the tin containers stored at ambient temperatures. No corrosion Inhibitors were added to the tin containers. Container manufacturers use a flux In the tinning process, many contain either nitrite or nitrate salts. Thus, the potential for the nltrosatlng agents exists as part of the metallic film In a seemingly clean tin container. In addition. Archer and Wlshnok (1976) demonstrated the formation of nltrosamlnes from constituents of polymeric liners of metal cans. Container specifications are vital for pesticide formulations prone to be nltrosated. [Pg.371]

Food coloring is restricted by law to prevent misuse that may lead to deception of consumers related to reduced value or usability. For this purpose, the European Union implemented food colorant guidelines in 1994 based on the understanding that food coloration presents a technological need. While European Parliament and Council Directive 94/36/EC lists colors and their uses in food, the European Commission Directive 95/45/EC contains specific purity criteria for colors in foodstuffs, e.g., a maximal lead content of 20 ppm. Brown Algae, such as rhodophyta and phaeophyta. They consist of numerous compilations of thread-like cells, which contain specific brown coloured pigments, like Fe2+ and Mn2+. [Pg.128]
