Homogeneity of data. Homogeneous data will be uniform in structure and composition, usually possible to describe with a fixed number of parameters. Homogeneous data is encountered in simple NDT inspection, e.g. quality control in production. Inhomogeneous data will contain various combinations of indications from construction elements, defects and noise sources. An example of inhomogenous data are ultrasonic B-scan images as described in [Hopgood, 1993] or as encountered in the ultrasonic rail-inspection system described later in this paper. [Pg.98]

Bayonet Heaters A bayonet-tube element consists of an outer and an inner tube. These elements are inserted into tanks and process vessels for heating and cooling purposes. Often the outer tube is of expensive alloy or nonmetalhc (e.g., glass, impeivdous graphite), while the inner tube is of carbon steel. In glass construction, elements with 50.8- or 76.2-mm (2- or 3-in) glass pipe [with lengths to 2.7 m (9 ft)] are in contact with the external fluid, with an inner tube of metal. [Pg.1052]

The fluorine concentration in hydrofluorides of tantalum and niobium is an extremely important issue. Fluorine that separates into the gaseous phase interacts with the construction elements of the furnaces, leading to additional contamination of the final product by silicon, aluminum, etc. Thus, it is recommended to perform diying in crucibles made of Teflon or polypropylene with appropriate temperature limitations. We conclude that the preparation of the samples of the polymer composites with the corresponding electrical properties in the form, say, of the plates, bars, hollow cylinders, etc., that are usually used for the purpose of research in the laboratories, and of real articles should be considered as two interrelated problems. The realization of complete bench-scale micro reactor set-ups is certainly still in its infancy. Nevertheless, the first investigations and proposals point at different generic concepts. First, this stems from the choice of the constructing elements for such set-ups. Either microfluidic components can be exclusively employed (the so-caUed monolithic concept) or mixed with conventional components (the so-called hybrid or multi-scale concept). Secondly, differences concerning the task of a micro-reactor plant exist. As mentioned earlier, much attention was being given to the formation of ion-radical conductors in the appropriate crystalline form. Meanwhile, Ziolkovskiy et al. (2004) reported data on high conductivity at 77-300 K of the methyl-TCNQ anion-radical salts with A-alkylpyridinium cations that keep their conductivity after crystallization from the melted forms. The melting temperatures of the salts described are rather low and the melting proceeds without salt destruction. This feature opens a possibility to create definite, much essential constructive elements directly from the liquid phase. Importantly, these salts also possess affinity to metals due to the metal-nitrogen coordina-tive ability. The authors notice that such ion-radical salts are promising for use in electronics and microelectronics. [Pg.418]
