Connector

A variety of connectors are now commercially available in LCPs, including microminiature, D-subminiature, backplane, card-edge and board-to-board. The development of a board-to-board connector for flat-panel displays is a good example of how LCPs have been utilized to solve extremely demanding application requirements. 

As shown in Fig. 7.12, the connector was designed with an T beam cross-section, which provided the basic cavity for insertion of the contacts. Runner slots were designed into the connector to accept a contact-retaining insulator, which prevented the contacts snapping out of their pre-loaded position. Each contact slot has an integrally moulded shoulder, providing a support for the contact strip prior to insertion. 

According to Reed Electronics Research [4], the West European connector market was valued at 5 billion in 2004, rising by 1% in 2005. In geographical terms, Germany (35.1%) was the largest market, followed by France (14.8%) and the UK (12.4%). In application terms the automotive sector took the largest share (34%), followed by industrial and others (20%) and computers and peripherals (18%). 

The commonly used D-subminiature connectors are available in 9,15, 25 and 37 way versions with each pin typically having a 1 A current carrying capability and a dielectric withstand voltage of 

1000 V for one minute. Maximum contact resistance is 25 milliohms with an insulation resistance of one thousand mega-ohms. Insert material options include UL 94-VO glass-filled polyester, PBT and Nylon 6T. 

In the case of connectors for white goods, domestic appliances and IT applications Tyco is reported to be using DuPont Thermx CG923 which combines the properties of the CG023 composition with a UL 94 VO classification. 

Tyco Electronics is now promoting its ranges of PARA-OPTIX and MPO fibre optic cable connectors. These connectors allow either 12, 24 or up to 72 individual fibre optic connectors with a single compact interface.

One of the primary tasks in connection with the use of AE method is to identify defects by the AE parameters. For identification of nature of the destruction centre in the polymeric composites it is necessary to consider the peculiarities of their heterogeneous structure, that is presence of at least two different components (filler and connector), and also boundary transitional layers. 

There are three changable sensor units for the MH-24/64 magnetic head as like as for MH-24. The units must be changed when rope diameter changes more than two times. The sensor units of the MH-40 and MH-54 are unchangable. So the MH-40 and MH-64 heads are more releable having no connectors for this. 

The ultrasonic hardware has to be designed to fit the PC boards. The length of the board should only be 160 mm for convenient installations because memory modules and processor cooler can be located behind the 160 mm long slot connector on the motherboard. 

The pulser/receiver is completely shielded and therefore receives no noise coming from the PC components. The input connector is a Lemo 00 coupler. The extremely low noise amplifier with a maximum amplification of about 90 dB accommodates very small signals. A precise gain setting is possible up to 106 dB. 

Receiver adapters or connectors. Various forms of receiver adapters are shown in Figs. 11, 56, 26-29. The simplest form. Fig. 11, 56, 26, carries a glass hook for securing it to the condenser by means of a rubber band from the side tube to the hook an improved form, incorporating two ground glass joints is shown in Fig. 11, 56, 27. A useful adapter is illustrated in Fig. 11, 56, 28 when employed at atmospheric pressure, a drying tube may be attached to the side tube, if desired in a distillation under reduced pressure, the side tube is connected to the pump. Fig. 11, 56, 29 depicts a receiver adapter with an additional socket connection.
