Optical fibre connector

In connectors light source to optical fibre, power losses result from different space characteristics of the light source and the fibre. Each light source emits a beam in its typical shape whereas a fibre can accept only these rays within the acceptance cone. Some typical losses are presented in Figure 2. [Pg.49]

For the measurements, the power meter photosensitive cell first evaluates the reference power, which is defined as the power received at the surface of the removable tray. The trend in the future will be towards miniaturization of many of the cables and connectors now in use. Polyetherimide resins are inherently flame resistant with low smoke emission which makes PEI suited to a variety of applications in the fields of electrical equipment and electronics. In the telecommunications maiket, there is an increasing need for high heat resistant materials, especially for high-end connectors in the fibre optics segment. PEI resin offers high heat resistance as well as great flow for thin wall design.
