These are examples you can define your own kinds of connectors to meet the needs of your enterprise. Being able to separately and explicitly define connector types lets us further decouple intercomponent dependencies from the component implementations and better abstract the structure of components when they are composed later. 

Big components are made by connecting smaller ones. In this section we explain how the connector types in our example architecture support composition.

The third part, titled specific information, could be quite lengthy, and no specific length limitations should be imposed. In this part, short summaries of information acquired from individual sources should be provided. It is important to write these summaries in such a form that it will be easy later to find major concepts and known realization of these concepts (which will be related to symbolic attributes). The identified concepts will eventually lead us to symbolic attributes, while examples of realizations will provide information about the feasible values of these symbolic attributes. For example, in the case of joints in timber floor trusses, we may identify such concepts as truss joint or joint plate and such examples of realizations as steel joint plate or nails. These concepts may lead to such symbolic attributes as joint type, joint plate material, and connectors type. ...

The Swiss company, WW Fischer, offers PTFE (Teflon PTFE or Hostaflon), PBT (Celanex, Crastin, Ultradur or Valox) or PEEK (Victrex) insulator material options in its 405 series of cylindrical connectors according to the requirements of working temperature and other criteria. PEEK is an expensive polymer which tends to be employed when other materials fail to meet the specification requirements of the application. Other Fischer connector types use polyamide-imide (Torlon) or POM (Celcon, Delrin or Hostaform). Elastomeric seals used by Fischer in conjunction with their connectors are made from acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR N BUNA) or to MIL-P-25732, fluoroelastomer (FPM VITON), polychloroprene elastomer (CR Neoprene), ethylene-propylene diene elastomer (EPDM) and styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene thermoplastic elastomer (TPE-S or TPE-O) where each compound is followed by its trade name. Fischer s Swiss competitor, Lemo, manufactures a similar range of connectors including the Redel types which have a plastic body.

Union Connectors. CoUar and cone-type connectors (Figs. 26a and b) are nearly always used to connect smaU bore tubes at pressures up to about 400 MPa (140). The included angle of the end of the tube is 55—57° and that of the seat 60—61° so that when the gland nut is tightened into the connector a metal-to-metal seal is formed along a narrow band of contact between the end of the tube and the connector. Union connectors for smaU bore tubes at pressures of 500 MPa and above usuaUy employ lens rings. 

Great care is needed in the design of autoclaves and sterilization cycles because of the requirement for the presence of moisture. The autoclave must be loaded to allow complete steam penetration to occur in all parts of the load before timing of the sterilization cycle commences. The time required for complete penetration, the so-called heat-up time, varies with different autoclave constmction and different types of loads and packaging materials. The time may not exceed specific limits in order to guarantee reproducibility and, for porous loads, saturated steam. The volume of each container has a considerable effect on the heatup time whenever fluids are sterilized. Thermocouples led into the chamber through a special connector are often employed to determine heatup times and peak temperatures. The pressure is refleved at the end of each sterilization cycle. Another type of electronic connector joins coaxial conductors. These have a soHd or stranded center-conductor surrounded by a dielectric. The dielectric is covered with a conductive shield made of metal braid or tape and with a layer of insulation. Coaxial cable connectors terminate the center-conductor and the shield. These are used primarily in radio frequency circuits. The shape, dimensions, and materials of an electronic connector shell or stmcture may have to be designed to shield the connection from electromagnetic and radio frequency interferences in many appHcations.

It is good practice to use a different type of connector on each type of service point. 

The hose was fixed to the connector or to the plant by a screwed clip of the type used for automobile hoses (Jubilee clips). These are unsuitable for industrial use. Bolted clamps should be used. 

For lower pressure systems of approximately 150 psig at 400°F or 225 psig at 100°F, and w here sanitary precautions (food products or chemicals used in food products) or some corrosion resistance is necessary, tubing is used. It is joined together by butt welds (Figure 2-8) or special compression or hub-type end connectors. This style of piping is not too common in the... 

Avoid the use of shrink-type tool joints on drillpipes and drill collars (connectors, in this case). Flash-welded tool joints for drillpipes and integral drill-collar joints should be used.
