Figure 4.23 shows a snap connector (400) which can be mounted on the wide vertical side of a wood joist to facilitate securement of the vertically oriented plastic extrusions. The snap connector (400), which is made of an extruded polyvinyl chloride material, includes an elongated base (401) having a pair of opposed elongated end flanges (402) and (404). Each flange (402,404) includes a first section (406,408) which extends perpendicularly to the base (402) and a second section (410,412) which in turn extends perpendicularly from the first section (406,408). One of the growing areas for PAB blend applications under the hood is in electrical and electronic connectors and systems for power distribution and control. Such applications often require low melt viscosity at injection molding temperatures to fill the intricate tooling that may be designed for up to hundreds of individual electrical connections. Practical toughness is required for snap-fit of the connections. Furthermore, glass-reinforcement of these PAB s may be required to improve modulus and dimensional stability. Typical blends suitable for these applications include PBT/PC, PA/PPE and PPS/PEI. [Pg.956]

Reusable silver-silver chloride electrodes (Figure 26.4a) are made of silver disks coated electrolytically by silver chloride [1], or, alternatively, particles of silver and silver chloride are sintered together to form the metallic structure of the electrode. The workhorse for connector moulding is unfilled nylon 66, because of its fitness for the underbonnet environment, and its useful combination of toughness and creep resistance, making it ideal for snap-fit assemblies which maintain positive contact. The formulators have had to respond to tightening specifications, particularly in respect of flame retardancy as a result there are grades available now which achieve the UL V-0 rating without losing the essential snap-fit-ability . [Pg.149]

As shown in Figure 8.7, the Miller-Brooks system is rather complicated. The electrode basic assembly is Teflon fitted with appropriate metal connectors. The general principle is that of a snap fastener with skin rather than fabric as the associated medium. Both board-attached and wire harness connectors benefit from SPS s excellent thermal diffusivity, defined as the ratio of thermal conductivity to volumetric heat capacity.
