Communication boards

Vaccinations can also confer enormous benefits to populations. When vaccination rates are sufficiently high they can create "herd immunity," a condition that occurs when the rate of susceptibility within a population is so low it interrupts the chain of transmission of a disease within a community (Board of Health Care Services 2004). "Herd immunity" is a classic public good it benefits all individuals within a population.

I invariably ask this question of those I interact with—even constituents who approach me seeking help, regardless of their party alfiliation(s) or vote. By the word involved, I mean, do you know your neighbors Do you try to help them Do you volunteer on community boards You really caimot complain to your elected official if you are not trying to make the community a better place by doing something yourself. I think this is an individual responsibility for all of us. Vaclav Havel, the first president of the Czech Republic, described the essence of this idea ... 

The term augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is used to describe any communication that requires something oftier than the person s own body. This includes things such as a pen or pencil, a letter or picture communication board, a typewriter, or an electronic communication device. There are two basic communication needs that le to the use of augmentative and alternative communication systems conversation and graphics (Cook, 1988). 

Communication. A number of studies have highlighted the stress associated with communication difficulties in the LTMV population (6,8). One of the most widely reported stressors is when patients cannot speak or make themselves understood, or understand what their caregivers are trying to communicate. Therefore, health care professionals need to facilitate communication to reduce the frustration and stress of the patient. When speech is severely impaired, communication board or computer-based communication is associated with much less frustration (6). 

An electronic communication board on which universities can post questions regarding technical or other subjects could be beneficial. Compare this with the "Ventilation communication board", which is co-ordinated by Pierre Mouset-Jones. Questions dealing with education, research, internships, jobs, etc. could then easily be distributed. 

Add-on components can also be included as wireless communication boards. This enables the processing and/or outcomes display to be performed far from the sensing site, e.g., remotely (Fig. 11.7). Other examples of add-on components include power supply through batteries or based on more recent inductive wireless technologies.
