Central Labour Inspectorate (Zentral ArbeUsinspekiorai and its departments [Pg.94]

Each Labour Inspectorate has a special medical service. [Pg.94]

The Central Labour Inspectorate does not perform measurements on its own, but depending on results of the visits of the local labour inspectors, it asks the Central [Pg.94]

Office for Accidents and Occupational Diseases (of the Federal Accident Insurance Institution) to perfonn n asurements. The results of these measurements are kept at the local offices of the Labour Inspectorate but are not publicly available because diey are the result of an official legal procedure. In some cases (e.g. for wood dust, solvents or isdcyanates), the Central Office performs - within the framework of research projects - systematic measurement in order to get an overview of a specific type of exposure. The results of these research proj ts are published as technical reports and are publicly available. Most of the Labour Inspectorates have a technical department and a safety department to protect various groups ( gnant women, young people etc.). [Pg.95]

The experiments of F. Wessely (Plate 47) with V-carboxyanhydrides in the nineteen twenties, have already been mentioned in Chap. 2 (cf. p. 37). Wessely continued to be interested in the development of the peptide field. His work at the university of Vienna was continued by his students H. Michl and K. Schlogl. [Pg.229]

In 1953 a significant achievement was reported from the same university the elucidation of the structure of oxytocin by Hans Tuppy. Tuppy had just returned from Cambridge, England, where, as one of the principal coworkers of Sanger, he determined the amino acid sequence of the B-chain of insulin. In Vienna, almost singlehandedly and with the simplest means, he solved the sequence of oxytocin and published it a few months ahead of V. du Vigneaud (cf. p. 140). From Tuppy s associates H. Nesvadba, first at the University later at the SANDOZ laboratories in Vienna, studied problems of peptide synthesis. [Pg.229]

In Austria, as well as all over Europe, the first and repetition tests of all pressure equipments including steam drums are required for security reasons within fixed time intervals. These repetitive inspections are done differently in the most European countries, but most time these inspections include, according to the European Pressure Equipment Directive" and the specific national law any kind of over-pressurisation (e.g. hydrotest) and visual inside inspection. [Pg.30]

Since 1994 when the test method was implemented in the inspection program of many paper mills, we test now regularly the steam drums in the most paper mills in Austria (see table 1). [Pg.33]

Approximately 2.5 million t of viscose process regenerated ceUulose fibers were produced in 1990 (Table 1). Measured by production capacity in 1990, the leading producers of filament yams in 1990 were the Soviet Union state-owned factories (255,000 t capacity) and Akzo Fibres in Europe (100,000 t). The leading producers of staple fiber and tow were Courtaulds with 180,000 t capacity spUt between the UK and North America Formosa Chemicals and Fibres Co. with 150,000 t in Taiwan Tenzing with 125,000 t in Austria, and a 40% stake in South Pacific Viscose s 37,000 t Indonesian plant and Grasim Industries in India (125,000 t). The so-called hyperbar vacuum filtration is a combination of vacuum and pressure filtration in a pull—push arrangement, whereby a vacuum pump of a fan generates vacuum downstream of the filter medium, while a compressor maintains higher-than-atmospheric pressure upstream. If, for example, the vacuum produced is 80 kPa, ie, absolute pressure of 20 kPa, and the absolute pressure before the filter is 150 kPa, the total pressure drop of 130 kPa is created across the filter medium. This is a new idea in principle but in practice requires three primary movers a Hquid pump to pump in the suspension, a vacuum pump to produce the vacuum, and a compressor to supply the compressed air. The cost of having to provide, install, and maintain one additional primary mover has deterred the development of hyperbar vacuum filtration only Andrit2 in Austria offers a system commercially. [Pg.407]
