Inspection Program

Since 1994 when the test method was implemented in the inspection program of many paper mills, we test now regularly the steam drums in the most paper mills in Austria (see table 1). 

Before any physical movement is done in the real inspection environment, the optimal robot configuration and motion are planned and simulated in a virtual iuspection environment in the ROBCAD 3D robot simulation system. If any collisions or near-collisions are occurring or all the calculated inspection points can not be reached the robot configuration and/or robot inspection programs can be adjusted off-line accordingly without the need of the physical robot or inspection environment. This ensures that the time scheduled for the physical inspection is used actively for inspection instead of testing and configuration.

Risk-Based Inspection. Inspection programs developed using risk analysis methods are becoming increasingly popular (15,16) (see Hazard ANALYSIS AND RISK ASSESSMENT). In this approach, the frequency and type of in-service inspection (IS I) is determined by the probabiUstic risk assessment (PRA) of the inspection results. Here, the results might be a false acceptance of a part that will fail as well as the false rejection of a part that will not fail. Whether a plant or a consumer product, false acceptance of a defective part could lead to catastrophic failure and considerable cost. Also, the false rejection of parts may lead to unjustified, and sometimes exorbitant, costs of operation (2). Risk is defined as follows ... 

Maintenance. The lack of maintenance and investment in inspection programs results in not only poor housekeeping but unnoticed leaks due to corrosion, leaking flanges and valves, and inoperative instmmentation that could prevent spills. 

Use of Liners. The use of impermeable liners and membranes, often called release prevention barriers (RPBs) under tanks, may be the most effective leak detection and prevention method. On new tanks, it is relatively easy to install these systems, and large numbers of tanks are being built with this type of system in the 1990s. For existing tanks, however, it would be very costiy if not impractical to install liners. For existing tanks, the combination of other methods as well as an effective inspection program can be more effective as a substitute for a release prevention barrier.

The facility has a regular self-inspection program utilizing experts from outside the facility or company, in addition to internal personnel. 

A cursory routine inspection program will detect some potential failures for example, low oil level, which could eventually lead to a seizure. 

On normally operating equipment, because the demand is continuous, all failures can be considered as functions of time but for equipment that is operated intermittently, the relative proportion of demand- and time-related failures in combination with the frequency of demands and the type of maintenance and inspection program will have an impact on its total failure rate. This point is best illustrated by an example ... 

Residential Pricing Residential natural gas rates are for tiatural gas seivice atid for the gas commodity. The price of the gas commodity comprises about oue-third of the total price a residential customer pays, on average. The remainder of the bill includes amounts for transmission and distribution of gas, system maintenance, safety and inspection programs, customer service, metering, billing and other costs. 

Maintain good and regular inspection programs and, at frequent intervals, remove any deposits formed. 

Formal inspection programs present a good opportunity for the water treatment service company representative to undertake an informal internal inspection to observe the various boiler surfaces first hand, perhaps undertake some limited nondestructive testing (NDT) work, and record the results of the previous 12 months water treatment management program. 

Safety is the first priority of any inspection program, and appropriate precautions must be taken. Boiler inspections are vitally important and often technically rewarding, but the process usually is dirty, exhausting, hot, and sometimes wet work. 

At a minimum, the method will be tested in one FDA laboratory and two contract laboratories selected by the sponsor. If the method is for a new animal drug in tissue regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as part of the meat inspection program, a Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS)/USDA laboratory will be included if sufficient resources are available. The method trial will be conducted using control and incurred target tissues that are supplied by the sponsor. The sponsor may, on request, supply new or unusual reagents or standards. 

The plant inspection program of the American baking industry has shown that 80% of sanitation problems can be avoided by good housekeeping. Proper use of residual spray material, such as DDT and chlordan, will control casual invaders—roaches, ant, flies, silver-fish, dermestids, fungus beetles, and meal worms— without contamination of food products.

Pharmaceutical Inspectorate (PI) The PI was estabhshed in the ORA to enhance the FDA s overall inspection program.

Recommendations targeted at reducing the probability of a given incident (for example, increasing preventive maintenance inspection programs to reduce the probability of simultaneous failure of critical circulating pumps and back-up pumps)... 

A maintenance and inspection program should be developed for the injection pump filter pots. 

Review the rest of the mechanical integrity program to ensure all critical equipment, piping, and pumps have acceptable integrity and an established inspection program with guidelines for repair. Include inspection and repair of fireproof insulation in the program. (By March 2002)...
