Research Austria

The present project was carried out in cooperation with Tiba-Muller Lid (Balstlial, Switzerland) which is gratefully acknowledged. The investigation was funded by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy and the Swiss Federal Office for Editcaiion and Sciences and it was part of the EU-Project JOR3CT96, Low-NO, Wood Chip Combustion which was coordinated by Joanneum Research (Austria). [Pg.954]

Analysis of soils is an important task in the environmental researches. Reliability of ICP-MS results of soil analysis mainly depends on chemical sampling. Recently microwave systems are widely used for preparation of different samples. Influence of microwave radiation on sample ensures a complete decomposition of sample, greatly increases the mineralization, and allows possible losses of volatile elements to be minimized. In the given study to intensify decomposition of soils we applied the microwave sample preparation system MULTIWAVE (Anton Paar, Austria and Perkin-Elmer, USA) equipped with rotor from 6 autoclaves with TEM reaction chambers of 50 ml volume. [Pg.287]

Tn their years together Hahn and Meitner did significant research on beta- and gamma-ray spectra. They discovered the new element protoactinium-91 and, at Meitner s suggestion, took up, and made great progress with, work on neutron bombardment of nuclei that Enrico Fermi had commenced in Rome. In 1938, this research was suspended when Adolph Hitler annexed Austria and Meitner had to flee Germany. [Pg.791]

One of the problems is that the phosphate fertiliser allowed by the organic regulations is rock phosphate, and research in Austria has shown (Lindenthal, et al., 2000) that the application of rock phosphate had virtually no effect on subsequent crop yields. [Pg.154]

Mark s activities in Vienna were not limited to research and administration. During this period, he was appointed a member of the Austrian Ministry of Education, President of the Committee on Wood Utilization, and a consultant to the Ministries of Industry, Agriculture, and Foreign Relations. The appointments were made by Engelbert Dollfuss, a wartime comrade of his, who became first Chancellor in 1932 and later anti-Nazi strong man of Austria. In addition, he served on the local avalanche squad and wrote several articles on prediction of avalanches. [Pg.78]

Kurt Varmuza was bom in 1942 in Vienna, Austria. He studied chemistry at the Vienna University of Technology, Austria, where he wrote his doctoral thesis on mass spectrometry and his habilitation, which was devoted to the field of chemometrics. His research activities include applications of chemometric methods for spectra-structure relationships in mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy, for structure-property relationships, and in computer chemistry, archaeometry (especially with the Tyrolean Iceman), chemical engineering, botany, and cosmo chemistry (mission to a comet). Since 1992, he has been working as a professor at the Vienna University of Technology, currently at the Institute of Chemical Engineering. [Pg.13]
