Audits/auditing compliance

In the early applications of chemicals, the methods used for disposal were, in general, performed without consideration of the environmental impact. However, as the volumes of chemicals increased and the consequences of such practices became apparent it was necessary to develop non-polluting methods for the disposal of all chemicals, including solvents. New approaches were required which not only would benefit the environment but also the user, the chemical industry and society as a whole. Sensible legislation is the key driver to achieve a balance between use and impact minimisation. Sustainable development is achieved by establishing performance criteria, cooperation, commitment and by auditing compliance. [Pg.154]

Where management have not drawn up a safety plan, counting accidents is the only measure of safety performance available, apart, of course, from auditing compliance with statutory hardware requirements. This is a reason why safety management via accident rate comparison is attractive to the less competent and committed employer. [Pg.96]

Principal Address — Enter the address where the company s safety records are maintained. FMCSA will use this address for on-site visits to Motor Carriers for the purpose of conducting safety audits, compliance reviews, and other activities. For this reason, do not enter a P.O. Box as the Principal Address or processing of the company s application will be delayed. [Pg.42]

One inspector assigned to each shift will audit monitoring equipment and its proper usage at TPs not normally manned by an HP Inspector. An HP technical person will audit compliance of all radiation workers, provide training for HP and other personnel, and provide assistance in planning of work in the radiologically controlled areas. [Pg.102]

An important aspect of environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations is enforcement. Eederal, state, and local regulatory authorities usually have large enforcement sections. In the environmental area, compliance audits are usually conducted aimually. OSHA, both federal and state, usually audits based on a faciHty s accident/incident rate. [Pg.74]

Introduction Review and audit processes are used in the chemical process industry to evaluate, examine, and verify the design of process equipment, operating procedures, and management systems. These processes assure compliance with company standards and guidelines as well as government regulations. Reviews and audits can encompass the areas of process and personnel safety, environmental and industrial hygiene protection, quality assurance, maintenance procedures, and so on. [Pg.2283]

The general purpose of an audit may be to determine if the toller has management systems and documented procedures in place to ensure process safety, environmental responsibility, product quality and traceability of materials. The need to audit could be to evaluate compliance with regulations or accordance with client requirements related to specific performance elements. A subjective rating system for ranking management systems audit results is often used. An example of one that might be appropriate is shown below ... [Pg.113]

In addition to fulfilling the in-house requirements for quality control, state and local air monitoring networks which are collecting data for compliance purposes are required to have an external performance audit on an annual basis. Under this program, an independent organization supplies externally calibrated sources of air pollutant gases to be measured by the instrumentation undergoing audit. An audit report summarizes the performance of the instruments. If necessary, further action must be taken to eliminate any major discrepancies between the internal and external calibration results. [Pg.224]

Laboratories wishing to claim GLP compliance are nonually registered with Competent Authorities who issue statements of compliance following successful periodic inspections of the premises to monitor compliance with the relevant legislation. All pollution prevention programs start the same - with an audit. The objective of an audit is to gather information aimed at developing a baseline description of the operations. Once we understand how much the costs of compliance to air and other pollution media are, then we can apply engineering tools and management practices to reduce these costs. [Pg.357]
