Adverse impact

The results of the assessment are documented in an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which discusses the beneficial and adverse impacts considered to result from the activity. The report is one component of the information upon which the decision maker ultimately makes a choice. A final decision can be made with due regard being paid to the likely consequences of adopting a particular course of action, and where necessary by introducing appropriate monitoring programs. [Pg.71]

Both acute and chronic toxicity testing of the treated effluent on daphnia shrimp and fathead minnows have indicated that the effluent is completely suitable for discharge into receiving waters with no adverse impact (42). [Pg.276]

Amphibians. Amphibians are highly susceptible to endocrine disruption during development of the larval form and during metamorphosis. The action of metamorphosis is triggered and controlled by the thyroid gland via an increase in triiodothyronine and a decrease in thyroxine, and differs greatly between oviparous and viviparous species. Experimentally, it has been shown that disruption during this sensitive period can lead to malformations and adverse impacts on immune and reproductive functions. [Pg.72]

At the time of preparation of this article the consumption of meat in the UK for 1995 and 1996 was estimated to be about 3.6Mtyr V thus there is a considerable demand to produce it economically with minimal adverse impact on the environment by maintaining good animal health and welfare. [Pg.86]

Is there a concern that untreated wastewater effluent could be creating adverse impacts to public health or the environment If yes, was an impact assessment (for example, through a paper study or actual monitoring of the receiving water) conducted to eliminate the concerns or to evaluate the impacts ... [Pg.169]

Clearly, the turboexpander is one of several key components in a process plant and liquid production is related to the performance of all components of the plant, not the turboexpander alone. It has previously been assumed that changes in the normal design conditions of turboexpanders have not adversely affected other equipment in the plant because adverse impact on other equipment, if any, would further reduce liquid production. This simplifies the assumptions, but does not affect the general validity of the findings. [Pg.435]

The total plant or train main process bottleneck will probably be identified by the licensor, such as the gasifier for a coal gasification train, the main exchanger for a mixed refrigerant LNG plant train, or the cracked gas compressors for an olefin plant. First and foremost, be sure that the licensor has not made the utility area a bottleneck. This can never be allowed since overloaded utilities could repeatedly shut the entire complex down on a crash basis, adversely impacting economics. [Pg.221]

In the first environment, we are concerned with the potential health risks that chemicals pose to the public, as well as possible impacts on the ecology. In the latter case, we are concerned with indoor air quality and its possible adverse impacts on the health and safety of the workforce. In both cases the health dangers may be either acute, or long-term chronic health risks. We will first discuss general concepts of air pollution and table our discussions on... [Pg.9]

The EPA argues that the cost of compliance to environmental regulations is small in comparison to baseline industry expenditures. However, there are many hidden costs that oftentimes are not considered when contemplating a control technology investment, and which can escalate and adversely impact on bottom-line economic performance. These so-called other costs include, but are not limited to ... [Pg.498]

Can process units be located to reduce or eliminate adverse impacts from other adjacent hazardous installations ... [Pg.136]

Some utilities experienced a PSA, submitted to the NRC, being misused to identify apparent safety problems. However the PSA also provided the defense with no adverse impacts. [Pg.403]

If a flame arrester is provided with cowls, weather hoods, deflectors, etc., it must be tested for the configuration involved if the test is done to meet the UL, USCG, or CEN standard (see Chapter 8). Maintenance of a flame arrester should be performed carefully to avoid any adverse impact on arrester performance (see Chapter 7). All flame arresters should be inspected regularly as operating experience dictates (see Chapter 7). [Pg.181]

The requirements of the property insurers must also be adhered to if potentially adverse impact to premiums is to be avoided. [Pg.51]

The constituent elements of anode materials, other than the basis metal, are present whether as a result of being impurities in the raw materials or deliberate alloying additions. The impurity elements can be deleterious to anode performance, thus it is necessary to control the quality of the input materials in order to achieve the required anode performance. Since this will usually have an adverse impact on costs it is often desirable to tolerate a level of impurities and to overcome their action by making alloying additions. Alloying elements may also be added for other reasons which are important to anode production and performance. These matters are discussed in this section. [Pg.139]

Increases in nitrate + nitrite have been well documented in the Great Lakes (19). Relative increases over the past twenty years have been between 30 and 200% with the highest increases in the most populated and agriculturally productive basins of Lakes Ontario and Erie (29). Currently no adverse impacts due to this increase have been observed and concentrations are well below the 10 mg.L maximum acceptable drinking water concentration for the protection of human health. Changing N P ratios, however, can impact phytoplankton community structure (30). [Pg.219]

Chlorine is used to obtain bromine from salt sources in primary production and is an excellent process for such large scale operations. For smaller scale recovery operations it is cheap in reagent terms but requires specialised equipment for handling and use which adversely impact on the process economics. Additionally, large volumes of salt are produced, creating a similar effluent problem to that which it is solving. [Pg.359]
