Inspection regular

In the vent pipes of storage tanks containing a flammable mixture of vapor and air (Section 5.4.1). Such flame traps should be inspected regularly and cleaned if necessary. Section 5.3 a described how a tank was sucked in because the flame arrestors on all three vents had not been cleaned for two years. 

Do not assume that such things could not happen in your company (unless you have spent some time in the relief-valve workshop). All relief valves should be tested and inspected regularly. Reference 3 describes model equipment and procedures. When a large petroleum company introduced a test program, it was shocked by the results out of 187 valves sent for testing, 23 could not be tested because they were leaking or because the springs were broken, and 74 failed to open within 10% of the set pressure—that is, more than half of them could not operate as required [4]. 

In cold weather, the trace heating on instruments that form part of trip and alarm systems should be inspected regularly. This can be part of the test routine, but more frequent testing may be necessary. 

If a flame arrester is provided with cowls, weather hoods, deflectors, etc., it must be tested for the configuration involved if the test is done to meet the UL, USCG, or CEN standard (see Chapter 8). Maintenance of a flame arrester should be performed carefully to avoid any adverse impact on arrester performance (see Chapter 7). All flame arresters should be inspected regularly as operating experience dictates (see Chapter 7). 

Most types of ion-exchange resin suffer some breakdown and volume loss over time because of attrition, excessive heat, or other factors. Water softeners should be inspected annually, and a double backwash procedure should be provided. This generally lifts the broken resin ( fines ) to the top of the bed, where it can be removed and replaced to restore capacity. Allow for 5 to 10% resin operating capacity loss per year because of physical breakdown. At many sites the resin is unfortunately not inspected regularly but merely replaced when a serious decline in operating capacity is noticed. Here a resin life expectancy of, say, 6 to 8 years probably is the norm. 

Self-inspection - regular internal auditing and follow up corrective actions... 

Many vegetables can be stored successfully without any special equipment as long as you are able to provide the right conditions. Once your vegetables are in store, they need to be inspected regularly. Adjust conditions if... 

Care should be taken to make sure that explosive magazines are kept in good condition. They should be inspected regularly for the condition of magazine and for the condition of stocks. 

Auditors should select the audit method most appropriate for their intended audit purpose. Initial quality system audits or regularly scheduled audits are likely candidates for the top-down approach, while audits conducted as part of a root cause analysis, for example, may best employ a bottom-up approach. The FDA employs a similar approach to inspections. Regular scheduled biennial inspections are more likely to employ a top-down methodology. For cause inspections conducted in response to a specific product issue such as a recall are more likely to employ a bottom-up approach. FDA investigators may employ a combination approach during biennial inspections if investigators are aware of specific quality problems that they wish to include in the inspection. 

The accumulation area should be inspected regularly. The inspection frequency can depend on the level of activity and the degree of hazard, but generally should be at least weekly. The inspection should include the following considerations ... 

The second part of this follow-up activity involved review and update of all of the engineering drawings to ensure that the miscellaneous vents, drains, sample points, and similar attachments are documented. The fire investigation team also directed attention to the piping inspection program to assure that all lines that could cause an immediate fire in case of failure were inspected regularly. Chapter 10 covers inspection programs. 

Cartridge filters should be inspected regularly during use to determine the extent of fouling of the filter. Filters should be replaced when the differential pressure across them reaches 5 psi or 2 weeks, whichever comes first. At worst, filters operating with relatively clean feed water (such as RO permeate or well water low in iron) should be replaced at least once per month to minimize biofouling risks. 

The microfluidized sample volume (approximately 10 ml) may be reduced, if needed, by placing the sample in dialysis tubing and then in a flat container fllled with PEG 6000. Removal of excess H O from the tubing is relatively rapid (within 30-60 min) and it is, therefore, essential that the sample be inspected regularly. 

These storage structures meet all pertinent requirements of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Each building has a concrete foundation and catch basin, a 1,000 psi rolled asphaltic concrete floor with sealer applied and each wood frame, steel-sided building encloses the entire foundation area. These buildings are secured with fences which will be posted, locked and Inspected regularly by MDNR personnel. Thus, safe, secure, temporary storage Is assured until a permanent disposal method can be planned and Implemented. 

Airworthiness of civil aircraft depends upon a process by which a team composed of aircraft manufacturers, regulators, and one or more airlines predicts possible system failures. This process. Maintenance Steering Group 3 (MSG-3), considers possible failure pathways (e.g., in structures, controls, avionics) and for each pathway determines a recovery strategy. For structural failure, this may be replacement after a fixed service life, regular inspection to ensure detection, or an indication to crew of the malfunction. The concern here is with the reliability of the primary failure recovery system for aircraft structural inspection regular inspection to ensure detection. 

As unfired pressure vessels, stills will need biennial inspections, but if it is believed that corrosion may have taken place a prompt check should be made. If a process whose moderate corrosion has been predicted on the basis of laboratory results is due to be done on the plant, corrosion test coupons should be installed in the plant and inspected regularly. 

Tank vents need to be inspected regularly for blockage or failure of gauzes or flame traps due to corrosion. Much more frequent inspection is needed when liquids with certain properties are stored ... 

Consumer safety experts stress that combustion appliances should be inspected regularly for leaks or other malfunctions. Also, it is recommended that drivers should inspect exhaust pipes and clear any obstructions before starting vehicles that have been parked in snow. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that CO detectors be installed near bedrooms in residences. These detectors sound an alarm before the gas reaches potentially lethal concentrations in the air. 

Once control methods have been established their performance should be monitored. For example, the performance of the ventilation system should be monitored by regular analysis of the plant atmosphere. Personal proteetive equipment should be inspected regularly to ensure it is in good condition and being properly used. 

Active workings Any place in a mine where miners are normally required to work or travel and which are ventilated and inspected regularly. 

For work involving hazardous substances, use only hoods that have been evaluated for adequate face velocity and proper operation. Hood operation should be inspected regularly, and the inspection certified in a visible location. 

Safety equipment should be inspected regularly (e.g., every 3 to 6 months) to ensure that it will function properly when needed. It is the responsibility of the laboratory supervisor or safety coordinator to establish a routine inspection system and to verify that inspection records are being kept. 

Maintenance. Eye wash fountains should be inspected at inta-vals of not less than 3 months (6). Respirators for routine use should be inspected periodically by the laboratory supervisor (169). Other safety equipment should be inspected regularly (e.g., every 3-6 months) (6, 24, 171). Procedures to prevent restarting of out-of-service equipment should be established (25).
