Using Posters

Display of posters must be planned carefully in order for the posters to be effective. There is limited space to exhibit them, and the posters you select must be eye-catching and informative. Pictures are effective if they clearly explain the message that is being sent. Posters should focus on one particular safety issue and be displayed in a relevant work area. Topics for posters include slips and falls, personal protective equipment, and various potential hazards. If properly executed, the display of posters is an effective way to keep safety awareness at a high level.

In many cases, other poster sessions follow yours or other activities are planned for the poster room, so it is essential (and prudent, if you don t want to lose the poster ) to take it down promptly at the designated time. At ACS national meetings, it should be removed immediately after the close of the session. Used posters are nice to save for display at the home institution—outside your office or lab, for example, to inform (impress) visitors, colleagues, and future co-workers about your productivity and accomplishments. 

Describe written alternatives to labeling of in-plant containers, if used (for example, putting the label information on batch tickets for stationary process tanks, using posters for air emissions) ... 

Performance Just as reactants combine in certain proportions to form a product, colors can be combined to create other colors. Artists do this all the time to find just the right color for their paintings. Using poster paint, determine the proportions of primary pigments used to create the following colors. Your proportions should be such that anyone could mix the color perfectly. 

A campaign using posters to draw attention to the need to address potential accidents, including lifting and back injuries, is one way to increase awareness of safe work practices and techniques. The plant medical staff and a team of instructors should conduct regular tours of the site to look for potential hazards and allow input from workers. 

Add spice with variety. If you use posters, change them frequently. Stay out of a communication rut keep things fresh, attention-getting, and interesting. Use a variety of promotion aids such as the A to Z Hst in Figure 13.9. 

Early fluorescent pigments were promoted and adopted for use in screen inks for poster boards and paints for safety applications. These thermoset pigments were not well-suited because of their poor fightfastness. Also, because of their relatively coarse particle size, their use in thinner film applications, such as gravure or flexo, was limited. 

Films or videos cover the same broad areas as posters. They are typically fairly short (not more than 30 minutes) and are usually intended to be used during training. Instructor s notes are often supplied with the audiovisual material.

Posters on specific hazards are useful as short-term memory joggers if they are aimed at specific topics and are placed in appropriate positions. Fear or anxiety inducing posters must be used with caution. General safety awareness posters have not been shown to be effective...

Chemical diagrams are one of the most commonly used forms of representation in teaching chemistiy. They are symbolic representations that present images and information of the sub-micro or molecular level. Since the snb-micro level cannot be observed directly, chemical diagrams of this level are used in textbooks, on posters, in videos, in software programmes, etc. by teachers to describe the snb-micro level and explain chemical phenomena. They play an important role in helping students... 

The students discuss these ideas and propose experiments to verily or falsify one of the presented theories. From a methodical point of view, several approaches from discussions, poster presentations up to actual role-plays are possible. The students have the possibility to choose one of the scientists as an advocate for their preconceptions. Using this technique, it will be easier for the students to express and defend their conception in classroom.

The cities of Berkeley, Long Beach, San Jose, Glendale, Pasadena, and Sacramento follow the state regulations. California apparently permits the use of DDT and presumably other residuals under carefully controlled conditions, as evidenced by the existence of a California State Department of Public Health poster entitled Use of DDT in Food Establishments. This poster suggests that DDT be employed under carefully controlled conditions, which include the use of a nonmisting compressed air spray, limited to wetting surfaces remote from food supplies, utensils, and open flames under adequate ventilation. The oil solutions must not be allowed to remain in contact with the skin.

The poster showed the construction of the LXe cell used [5] and described the possibilities and limitations of this method. The spectroscopic data obtained for the (as yet) small number of known compounds were discussed [4,6]. 

Adding compounds solubilized in DMSO to aqueous medium as part of a discovery solubility assay can lead to two types of solubility assay with different uses. At one extreme, the quantity of DMSO is kept very low (<1%). At this low level of DMSO, the solubility is only slightly affected by the DMSO content. For example, data from a poster by Ricerca Ltd. [11] suggest that a DMSO content of 1% should not elevate apparent solubility by more than about 65%. At 5% DMSO, this group reported an average solubility increase of 145% due to the DMSO content.
