Xhe 1987 WINTER SYMPOSIUM of the Division of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry, hosted by the Minnesota Supercomputer Institute, was supported by grants from the American Chemical Society, the Minnesota Supercomputer Institute, Cray Research, Inc., and ETA Systems, Inc. The symposium consisted of four half-day sessions with four lectures per session and a two-part poster session with 15 poster papers. This book includes chapters by the lecturers plus five papers contributed by the session chairs. All contributions were refereed anonymously according to usual procedures of the ACS Symposium Series.

At chemistry conferences, poster sessions are nearly always more engaging than talks. As proof consider how jew people fall asleep while viewing a poster This is because the poster, by its very nature, is interactive, inviting people in to talk with you about your science.

Each author is responsible for mounting his/her material prior to the opening of the poster session and for removing it IMMEDIATELY after the close of the session. 

Keep in mind that lighting may be dim inside large poster sessions, so make sure your contrast and color combinations are easy to read. 

With the increased level of research and interest in the field, an additional international meeting held between the two European meetings seemed desirable. With this in mind, a mposium was organized as part of the International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies. The mposium included oral presentations and a poster session, with a total of 50 contributions. The contributions came from nine countries 11 fi om the United States, 20 firom Japan, 3 from Australia, 1 firom the United Kingdom, 2 from Italy, 4 from the Federal Republic of Germany, 5 from the Netherlands, 3 from Sweden, and 1 from Czechoslovakia.
