Union cases

Lacquer or shellac was sometimes layered to produce a material that could be carved or molded. Popular examples of this process are the red Asian cinnabar ware and union cases used for early photographs. Most cinnabar-ware actually contains no cinnabar, although this toxic sulfide of mercury was originally used as a coloring agent. Some of this lacquer-ware is composed entirely of many layers of lacquer, but most has a base of wood or metal. 

Shellac is dark in colour, and is usually dyed black, red or brown. Its best known uses were as gramophone records. Another use was for American Union cases, which were small boxes used as folding picture frames (Fig. 13.1). They could be closed to preserve the silver nitrate coated glass photo des called Daguerreotypes, which deteriorate in the h t. Shellac was also used fin dressing table sets and for brooches. It is a britde material and can crack or chip. Shellac is compression moulded, and is still produced today. 

In developing the unions case, Benjamin Sigal, the talented general counsel of the machinists union, cross-examined several members of the Safeguards Committee—Rogers McCullough, Donald Rogers, Harvey Brooks, and Mark Mills—who had submitted the 6 June 1956 report. 

Certain types of equipment are specifically excluded from the scope of the directive. It is self-evident that equipment which is already regulated at Union level with respect to the pressure risk by other directives had to be excluded. That is the case with simple pressure vessels, transportable pressure equipment, aerosols and motor vehicles. Other equipment, such as carbonated drink containers or radiators and piping for hot water systems are excluded from the scope because of the limited risk involved. Also excluded are products which are subject to a minor pressure risk which are covered by the directives on machinery, lifts, low voltage, medical devices, gas appliances and on explosive atmospheres. A further and last group of exclusions refers to equipment which presents a significant pressure risk, but for which neither the free circulation aspect nor the safety aspect necessitated their inclusion. 

The measuren.cnts are performed on a sample made from Inconell IN 718 placed at our disposal by Me oren- und Turbinen-Union Miinchen GmbH (MTU). The sample is of disk shape and has a curved side and a flat side, see also fig. 6. On the curved side MTU had detected a segregation reaching to the surface but with unknown depth. It had been detected by segregation etching and its existence was confirmed by eddy current testing. Both methods are successful only in such a special case where the segregation extends to the surface. 

In general the receptor nomenclature used is consistent with the recommendations of the various International Union of Pharmacology (lUPHAR) Committee on receptor nomenclature (19,20). In some cases the human receptor has been cloned. By convention, pharmacologicaUy defined receptors are shown ia capital letters cloaed receptors ia lower case letters. 

Nucleophilic Substitution Route. Commercial synthesis of poly(arylethersulfone)s is accompHshed almost exclusively via the nucleophilic substitution polycondensation route. This synthesis route, discovered at Union Carbide in the early 1960s (3,4), involves reaction of the bisphenol of choice with 4,4 -dichlorodiphenylsulfone in a dipolar aprotic solvent in the presence of an alkaUbase. Examples of dipolar aprotic solvents include A/-methyl-2-pyrrohdinone (NMP), dimethyl acetamide (DMAc), sulfolane, and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Examples of suitable bases are sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, and potassium carbonate. In the case of polysulfone (PSE) synthesis, the reaction is a two-step process in which the dialkah metal salt of bisphenol A (1) is first formed in situ from bisphenol A [80-05-7] by reaction with the base (eg, two molar equivalents of NaOH),... 

Sebacic Acid. This acid is produced commercially by Union Camp in Dover, Ohio, by Hokoku OU Company in Japan, and by a state enterprise in the People s RepubHc of China (57). The process used in each case is based on the caustic oxidation of castor oU or ricinoleic acid [141-22-0] in... 

Fiber blends can be dyed into union shades (tone-on-tone) or multicolor effects can be obtained by coloring the individual components in different shades or by maintaining one fiber in an undyed state (reserving). A complete reserving of a fiber is not possible in all cases. 

In the esterification of organic acids with alcohols, it has been shown that in most cases under acid catalysis, the union is between acyl and alkoxy groups. Acid hydrolysis of acetoxysuccinic acid gives malic acid with retention of configuration at the asymmetric carbon atom (11) ... 

Farmed animals tend to be subjected to compounds that can be classified more easily as drugs. In some cases, animals may encounter compounds in nature that have considerable limitations in inclusion in the diets of farmed animals. An example is the inclusion of zearalenone (Figure 1) and its derivatives in animal diets these have anabolic and oestrogenic properties " and are permitted to be used in some areas of the world but are prohibited from use in others, such as European Union countries. Thus this compound and its reduced isomers (zearalenols, zeranols) improve growth rates in animals but can cause reproductive problems, especially in pigs. Ralgro, which is a commercially prepared derivative of zearalenone, is used as an ear implant in beef cattle as a growth promoter in... 

HDetect Financial Risks. In addition to physical injuries, a company may be injured by the perception of injury that result in law suits, drop in stock price, and reduction in sales. A detailed analysis (2) will as.scss vulnerability but it docs not directly address the perception factor. A case in point is TMI-2 which complied with 10 CFRIOO, had no injuries and no deaths, but the company was driven to near-bankruptcy. Similarly with Bhopal and Union Carbide, although there were deaths. ... 

Logically, a representative carries the wishes of the people they represent to a place where decisions are taken that affect them - this is the case for Members of Parliament, Union Representatives, Committee Members, etc. The note would appear to address the need for representation outside the business. Inside the business, the representative represents management to the workforce but not in the same sense. The person carries the wishes of management (i.e. the policies) to the workforce so that the workforce makes decisions that take into account the wishes of management. 

When water-miscible ionic liquids are used as solvents, and when the products are partly or totally soluble in these ionic liquids, the addition of polar solvents, such as water, in a separation step after the reaction can make the ionic liquid more hydrophilic and facilitate the separation of the products from the ionic liquid/water mixture (Table 5.3-2, case e). This concept has been developed by Union Carbide for the hydroformylation of higher alkenes catalyzed by Rh-sulfonated phosphine ligand in the N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP)/water system. Thanks to the presence of NMP, the reaction is performed in one homogeneous phase. After the reaction. 

Brass water fittings give no trouble except that dezincification may occur in acid waters or waters of high chloride content, especially when hot. This dezincification has three effects. Firstly, the replacement of brass by porous copper may extend right through the wall of the fitting and permit water to seep through. Secondly, the zinc which is dissolved out of the brass may form very voluminous hard corrosion products and eventually block the waterway —this is often the case in hot soft waters. Thirdly, and often the most important, the mechanical properties of the brass may deteriorate. For instance, a dezincified screwed union will break off when an attempt is made to unscrew it and a dezincified tap or ball-valve seat is readily eroded by the water. 

A difficulty arises in describing the precise chemical nature of many inhibitor formulations that are actually used in practice. With the advancing technology of inhibitor applications there are an increasing number of formulations that are marketed under trade names. The compositions of these are, for various reasons, frequently not disclosed. A similar problem arises in describing the composition of many inhibitor formulations used in the former Soviet Union. Here the practice is to use an abbreviated classification system and it is often difficult to trace the actual composition, although in many cases a judicious literature search will provide the required information.
