Inhibitors application

Whatever method of inhibitor application is used, care must be taken to maintain optimum concentration of the corrosion inhibitor. In the event of addition of makeup water or untreated reserve fluids to maintain other fluid properties, care must be taken to ensure the addition of the correct amounts of corrosion inhibitors. [Pg.1331]

The majority of inhibitor applications for aqueous, or partly aqueous, systems are concerned with three main types of environment ... [Pg.776]

Other considerations In addition to the above general factors affecting inhibitor application and performance, there will be other special effects relating to particular types of systems, e.g. in oil-production technology. Some of these are referred to in appropriate cases in the following section. [Pg.785]

A difficulty arises in describing the precise chemical nature of many inhibitor formulations that are actually used in practice. With the advancing technology of inhibitor applications there are an increasing number of formulations that are marketed under trade names. The compositions of these are, for various reasons, frequently not disclosed. A similar problem arises in describing the composition of many inhibitor formulations used in the former Soviet Union. Here the practice is to use an abbreviated classification system and it is often difficult to trace the actual composition, although in many cases a judicious literature search will provide the required information. [Pg.785]

The method of inhibitor application varies considerably since so many factors have to be considered. These include the oil water ratio, the types... [Pg.794]

The principles and practice of corrosion inhibition have been described in terms of the factors affecting inhibitor performance and selection (principles) and the more important practical situations in which inhibitors are used (practice). For the latter a brief account is given of the nature of the system, the reasons for inhibitor application and the types of inhibitor in use. [Pg.802]

The history of corrosion inhibitors and neutralizers and their invention, development, and application in the petroleum industry is documented by a review of Fisher [605]. Early corrosion inhibitor applications in each of the various segments of the industry, including oil wells, natural gas plants, refineries, and product pipelines, are reviewed. [Pg.82]

Liquid Cl are used as saturation components of porous and fibrous polymer matrixes. The Cl must have sufficient fluidity and wetability in this case. The heating stage aimed at reduction of Cl viscosity exerts certain limitations on the use of highly volatile inhibitors. Application of vacuum techniques for impregnation of the polymer porous structures is also restricted by the resultant losses of the most valuable and difficult to preserve volatile fractions of Cl. [Pg.42]

Corrosion inhibitors are inexpensive materials that can be applied simply. However, until there is clear evidence of their envelope of effectiveness in terms of chloride level, corrosion rate, dosage cover and longevity, it will be difficult to do comparative whole life costing of inhibitor application vs. proven alternatives such as cathodic protection. [Pg.135]

The rest of this section will discuss the options of patching and coating, realkalization and inhibitor application for carbonation repairs. [Pg.214]

A systematic evaluation of corrosion inhibitors is now underway at the UK Building Research Establishment preliminary results may be available in 1997-8, SHRP undertook field trials of two inhibitor applications on bridge decks and substructures in the USA, These will be monitored from 1994 to 1999, Other trials are underway in Europe on. i pecLfic materiaLs. [Pg.119]

The advantage of inhibitor application is that they can reduce the incipient anode effect around patches if they are incorporated into the repair mix and then diffuse into the concrete. Their disadvantage is the co.iit of the materials, difficulty of application and unknown lifetime and effectiveness. However, with proper evaluation and monitoring, we may learn a lot more about these materials over the next few years,... [Pg.119]

The relationship between a corrosion product layer and inhibitors has also been discussed, among others, by Lorenz [66], and Lorenz and Mansfeld [67]. These authors point out that in many practical systems, for instance aerated water and carbon steel, an interaction occurs between, in this case, iron oxide and the inhibitor to the point where the inhibitor is not only adsorbed on the oxide surface, but actually incorporated into the three-dimensional oxide layer. Clearly, three-dimensional or interphase inhibition caimot be achieved in short tests or by filming procedures. Furthermore, measuring techniques have to take into consideration the altered chemical and electrochemical conditions across such bulk interphase layers. It is unfortunate that this aspect of corrosion and corrosion inhibition has not received more attention, and it is suggested that this lack of attention has seriously held back all aspects of corrosion inhibitor applications and monitoring of effectiveness. [Pg.497]

Recognize corrosion problems in materials used at the site and make monitoring a normal part of the operation. Sour oil and gas operations are often conducted under high pressure and corrosive conditions. Therefore, in addition to temperature and pressure considerations, system designs for the wellhead, downhole equipment, and pipeUnes must have features to minimize the effects of corrosion and prevent an accidental release of H2S. Corrosion-inhibiting fluids can be used to prevent internal corrosion and cathodic protection can be used to prevent external corrosion. Also, during extended periods of shut-in and injection into pipelines, inhibitor applications may be beneficial. [Pg.52]

Later Holtje and co-workers (from the same research team) reported the development of several new human polymerase a inhibitors applicable for skin tumor treatment (in order to design new drags for actinic keratosis and squamous cell carcinoma) [159] (Fig. 4.10). To study the binding modes of these compounds, the same computational approaches as described in Richartz et al. [157] were used. [Pg.125]

Substitution of carbon or low-aUoy steels in cooling water systems for those of more expensive materials results in marked savings in initial costs. Use of cheap materials can increase the costs of operation, including water treatment and inhibitor application. A compromise between the cost of construction, materials, and operation should be performed at the design stage. [Pg.219]
