Trade magazines and publications

The industry has worldwide trade magazines and publications that provide useful information to industry personnel. The following listing provides examples of what is available.

It is distributed extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East, Armies and Weapons is really a trade magazine for defense departments and armament manufacturers, They review different countries missile systems,ships and tanks, logistics systems,etc. Test new anti-taink, anti-aircraft ammo extensively and give detailed reports on all aspects of it. The ads are very tastefully done with excellent photographs. Issues run 3 each but worth every penny. 

This monthly trade magazine, somewhat smaller than Modern Plastics, calls itself "The Magazine of Plastics Manufacturing Productivity." It is published by Bill Communications, Inc, 633 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10164-0735. The emphasis is on new developments. Plastics Technology also publishes a valuable Manufacturing Handbook and Buyers Guide in mid-July. This publication is available separately. 

For the publication of original matter and occasional reviews, some papers in dairy chemistry, but not very many, appear in American Chemical Society journals, as also in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, The main publication in the field in this country is the Journal of Dairy Science, Qi the American Dairy Science Association. This, however, covers a very much broader field than chemistry. The Journal of Milk and Food Technology, which is the official organ of the International Association of Milk and Food Sanitarians, is primarily concerned with papers of public health interest. The Journal of the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists contains some reports on analytical methods appertaining to the dairy field. There are also numerous trade magazines in which scientific and technical articles appear from time to time. 

Several publishers devote themselves solely to medical technology, while others provide broader coverage of the field. Such publications, including industry-specific newsletters, association publications, trade magazines, focused reports on specific companies, industry sectors, and countries, and market reports, are excellent sources for CL... 

Sources of information in general. If you read the newspaper regularly, you may already know a bit about a company that interests you. To learn more, go to the library or search the Internet by Googling the company name to find recent articles about the firm in a variefy of newspapers, magazines, and trade publications. Has the company been in the news because of an imminent merger or takeover If so, pay attention to any information or speculation about changes at the top or layoffs. 

Journals could be considered technically sophisticated trade magazines. Like their more commercial brothers, journals cover a wide gamut of topics, but each journal tends to have a tightly focused subject area. By and large, journals are more often oriented to the scientific, academic, and research communities, and articles are typically written by members of those same communities. Most journals require peer review of submitted papers prior to publication, which normally will take topics out of the range of the more commercially oriented to the generally technical/scientific side. 

Several publications help buyers of personal protection equipment locate manufacturers and supplies of PPE products. Some safety and health trade magazines offer buyer guides. Suppliers advertise in safety and health pubhcations. In addition, many PPE providers exhibit at annual conferences of safety and health organizations. 

Engineering trade journals and design publications often have articles describing recent A/D and D/A circuits and their applications. These publications include EDN Magazine, EE Times, and IEEE Spectrum. Research-related topics are covered in IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems and also IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement.

Supplementary information on technical house organs initiated since the appearance of the second edition of the Printer s Ink directory in 1947 may be obtained from notices in the new literature and trade publications sections of the various trade journals. In addition. Industrial Arts Index, under the heading, Magazine Notes, lists new house organs. A number of the house organs listed in the Printed sink directory have since been discontinued however, the discontinuance or suspension of a house organ usually can be ascertained only by writing to the publisher.
