It is only comparatively recently that we have become acutely aware of the need to utilize resources in a sustainable manner. The concept of sustainability began to receive attention during the 1970s and was first formalized internationally in the World Conservation Strategy of 1980. The initial concepts were taken from the idea of sustainable yield, as applied in forestry and agriculture. This is defined as the amount of crop that can be harvested without compromising the capacity of future harvests to produce an equal crop. The level of consumption of a resource to support an activity should meet the needs of the present, whilst ensuring that sufficient resources are available to meet the needs of the future. The concepts of sustainability include social, economic and environmental factors. All three must be taken into account if the absolute sustainability of a process is to be determined. 

The macro-trend towards sustainable environmental protection and social responsibility, also on a legislative level, offers ChemKitgood prospects for a steady business success. However, in the first years the business model depends strongly on subsidies from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (BMLFUW). Any unforeseen short-term loss of these subsidies would have an extremely detrimental effect on the revenue situation of ChemKit. 

The drift of pesticides in the forestry environment has the potential for greater environmental impact than in an agricultural environment and results in a greater social concern for their impact on human health. The factors affecting drift transfer of pesticide, especially herbicides, will be examined, the probable deposit and exposure level identified, and the risk of probability of injury to human health calculated.

Institute for Marketecology (IMO) was founded in 1989, and IMOgroup AG was founded in 2006 in Switzerland. The Institute for Marketecology is an international agency for inspection, certification and quality assurance of eco-friendly products. For more than 20 years, IMO has been active in the field of organic certification, but it is also active in the sectors of namral textiles, sustainable forestry and social accountability monitoring (Url-31). 

Based on the input coefficients table of producers prices, 52 sub-industrial sectors are combined into 9 main sectors including Agricultural, Forestry, Fishery and Animal Husbandry (A), Manufacturing (B), Electricity, Gas and Water (C), Construction (D), Trade, Accommodation, and Food and Beverage (E), Transportation and Communication (F), Banking, Insurance Entities and Real Estate (G), Industry, Commerce and Services (H), and Social and Personal Services (I). The EIO technical coefficients for these nine sectors are shown in Table 26.2.

Most Finnish principal companies in the field of forestry, chemical and metal process industries are taking care of corporate social responsibility (e.g. ISO 2010), sustainability policies (e.g. World Steel Association 2008) and practices. For example, World Steel Association (2014) states clearly that the most successfiil steel companies are also the safest.
