Acute Pharmacological Management of ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (Noninvasive or Conservative Strategy)... [Pg.27]

It is only comparatively recently that we have become acutely aware of the need to utilize resources in a sustainable manner. The concept of sustainability began to receive attention during the 1970s and was first formalized internationally in the World Conservation Strategy of 1980. The initial concepts were taken from the idea of sustainable yield, as applied in forestry and agriculture. This is defined as the amount of crop that can be harvested without compromising the capacity of future harvests to produce an equal crop. The level of consumption of a resource to support an activity should meet the needs of the present, whilst ensuring that sufficient resources are available to meet the needs of the future. The concepts of sustainability include social, economic and environmental factors. All three must be taken into account if the absolute sustainability of a process is to be determined. [Pg.1]

In many clinical trials, especially trials that occur later in a new drug development program, analyses are first conducted on the il l population. These analyses are considered to be the primary analyses. Intent-to-treat analysis provides a conservative strategy in the sense that it tends to bias against finding the results that the researcher hopes for (recall the discussion in Section 7.2.1 regarding hope). The ITT population therefore comprises the purest population of subjects in the... [Pg.166]

If a consensus is reached, the user is more confident. A critical situation may appear in case of conflicting results. A simple approach is to adopt a conservative strategy and get the worst case. A different strategy may be to associate a higher uncertainty to the predictions in case of disagreement. A third strategy is to develop a suitable system capable to deal with multiple inputs. This is the case of the above-mentioned hybrid models, which needs a specific study for the optimization of the final results. [Pg.193]

In the future, detailed studies of fluorine in archaeology will help to better assess modifications of ancient objects in soils and to develop adapted conservation strategies for precious and unique archaeological materials. [Pg.279]

Biological systems have evolved to allow sustainable consumption to occur with little or no depletion. Therefore, the depletion number provides a measure of system progress or maturity, and is a useful basis for studying the evolution of industrial resource use patterns and the implementation of resource conservation strategies. The depletion number is a function of three indicators showing the level of implementation of resource conservation strategies ... [Pg.244]
