Expert opinion is a source, frequently elicited by survey, that is used to obtain information where no or few data are available. For example, in our experience with a multicountry evaluation of health care resource utilization in atrial fibrillation, very few country-specific published data were available on this subject. Third, processing times may require special modeling in chemical industry. While in discrete manufacturing processing times for a certain lot are usually dependent on the lot size, i.e., the number of units to be produced, this is often not true in the chemical industry. Utilization of all resources is strongly increased with a sales price increase of product 1 and product 2. The continuous resource utilization is increased to 100% supplying the raw material for product 1 and product 2 on the respective campaign resources. Since the capacity of resource 3 is not sufficient to supply resource 1 and resource 2 at full utilization at the same time, the available capacity needs to be allocated either on resource 1 or resource 2. It gets transparent that resource 1 with product 1 are fully utilized up to 100%, while utilization of resource 2 with product 2 is reduced, since the product 2 businesses is less attractive compared to product 1 in this case.

Another special application of adsorption in space is presented by Grover et al. (1998). The University of Washington has designed an in situ resource utilization system to provide water to the life-support system in the laboratory module of the NASA Mars Reference Mission, a piloted mission to Mars. In this system, the Water Vapor Adsorption Reactor (WAVAR) extracts water vapor from the Martian atmosphere by adsorption in a bed of type 3A zeolite molecular1 sieve. Using ambient winds and fan power to move atmosphere, the WAVAR adsorbs the water vapor until the zeolite 3A bed is nearly saturated, and then heats the bed within a sealed chamber by microwave radiation to drive off water for collection. Tire water vapor flows to a condenser where it freezes and is later liquefied for use in tire life-support system.
