Expert opinion is a source, frequently elicited by survey, that is used to obtain information where no or few data are available. For example, in our experience with a multicountry evaluation of health care resource utilization in atrial fibrillation, very few country-specific published data were available on this subject. Thus the decision-analytic model was supplemented with data from a physician expert panel survey to determine initial management approach (rate control vs. cardioversion) first-, second-, and third-line agents doses and durations of therapy type and frequency of studies that would be performed to initiate and monitor therapy type and frequency of adverse events, by body system and the resources used to manage them place of treatment and adverse consequences of lack of atrial fibrillation control and cost of these consequences, for example, stroke, congestive heart failure. This method may also be used in testing the robustness of the analysis [30]. [Pg.583]

The user is allowed to define a cost model for controlling the behavior of the optimizers. Rules can be derived from costs, times, resource utilization or lead times. Also parts of the quant network can be deleted again if they are identified as not optimal by applying user defined evaluation procedures. [Pg.85]

Third, processing times may require special modeling in chemical industry. While in discrete manufacturing processing times for a certain lot are usually dependent on the lot size, i.e., the number of units to be produced, this is often not true in the chemical industry. Here, processing times are often constant, irrespective of whether a reactor is filled to 70% or 90% of its capacity. This is often referred to as batch production [5], On the other hand, the quality of the material produced may depend on resource utilization. Certain reactions may not even be feasible, if a minimum bound of the procured material is not exceeded. This implies additional restrictions regarding the resource utilization level on the planning situation. [Pg.242]

This multistage production process can be characterized by the description of the material flows and the resource utilization for planning purposes (Fig. 12.4). [Pg.266]

Constraints are given as resource utilization restrictions (e.g., shift regimes, workforce availability, energy, catalyzer). In addition relations between different dynamic data objects are defined (e.g., setup matrix, order network). Constraints can be considered as hard (must be satisfied) or soft (violations are visualized) in a given time interval with regard to calculation of derived dynamic data. [Pg.272]

Utilization of all resources is strongly increased with a sales price increase of product 1 and product 2. The continuous resource utilization is increased to 100% supplying the raw material for product 1 and product 2 on the respective campaign resources. Since the capacity of resource 3 is not sufficient to supply resource 1 and resource 2 at full utilization at the same time, the available capacity needs to be allocated either on resource 1 or resource 2. It gets transparent that resource 1 with product 1 are fully utilized up to 100%, while utilization of resource 2 with product 2 is reduced, since the product 2 businesses is less attractive compared to product 1 in this case. [Pg.253]

Another special application of adsorption in space is presented by Grover et al. (1998). The University of Washington has designed an in situ resource utilization system to provide water to the life-support system in the laboratory module of the NASA Mars Reference Mission, a piloted mission to Mars. In this system, the Water Vapor Adsorption Reactor (WAVAR) extracts water vapor from the Martian atmosphere by adsorption in a bed of type 3A zeolite molecular1 sieve. Using ambient winds and fan power to move atmosphere, the WAVAR adsorbs the water vapor until the zeolite 3A bed is nearly saturated, and then heats the bed within a sealed chamber by microwave radiation to drive off water for collection. Tire water vapor flows to a condenser where it freezes and is later liquefied for use in tire life-support system. [Pg.49]
