Smoke preparations

Proprietary Name. Nicorette (anti-smoking preparation)... [Pg.807]

To produce the physical smoke, prepare a mixture of substances A and B in the vaporized state. A must have a higher boiling point than... [Pg.76]

Spray cabinets are also employed in batch house situations in which entire trees or trucks are sprayed or drenched. The same guidelines for smoke preparation and application are used as those for drenching. [Pg.304]

Smoke flavourings are either smoke condensates or smoke preparations. Smoke flavouring blends produced by mixing chemically defined substances are not on the market because they would be more expensive than the products made from traditional smoke. [Pg.310]

Examples for the fluorescence detection system are the determination of quinine in soft drinks and the important quantification of benzo[a]pyrene and other polycyclic hydrocarbons (PAH) in smoke flavourings or smoke preparations [13-14]... [Pg.592]

Benzo(a)pyrene is present in much larger concentrations than is any other carcinogenic polycyclic hydrocarbon. The inability to account for the carcinogenicity of the tobacco products, except to a very minor degree, by the amonnt of benzo(a)pyrene present was unanticipated. Both Drnckrey (1056) and Wynder (4300) emphasized that the benzo(a)pyrene concentration of various tobacco and smoke preparations is only sufficient to account for a very small part of the carcinogenicity of these materials [see pp. 144-145 in (3999)]. [Pg.489]

Smoking is a slow process and it is not easy to control the process. Smoke contains phenolic compounds, adds, and carbonyls and smoke flavor is primarily due to the volatile phenolic compound [10,20,34]. Wood smoke is extranely complex and more than 400 volatiles have been identified [43]. Guillen and Manzanos [26] identified around 140 compounds in liquid smoke prepared from Thymus vulgaris wood. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are ubiquitous in the environment as pyrolysis products of organic matter. Their concentrations in smoked food can reach levels hazardous for human health, especially when the smoking procedure is carried out under uncontrolled conditions [46]. Wood smoke contains nitrogen oxides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, phenolic compounds, furans, carbonylic compounds, aliphatic carboxylic acids, tar compounds, carbohydrates. [Pg.547]

CPD may not always be simply an endogenous contaminant for example, in smoked products it can be a component of liquid smoke preparations, which contain 200-760 xg/kg of CPD. It may also originate from acid protein hydrolysates used as condiments. High concentrations of 3-CPD (up to 1150 xg/kg) were, for example, found in chicken steaks. CPD can also migrate from some types of... [Pg.923]

The predominant cellulose ester fiber is cellulose acetate, a partially acetylated cellulose, also called acetate or secondary acetate. It is widely used in textiles because of its attractive economics, bright color, styling versatiUty, and other favorable aesthetic properties. However, its largest commercial appHcation is as the fibrous material in cigarette filters, where its smoke removal properties and contribution to taste make it the standard for the cigarette industry. Cellulose triacetate fiber, also known as primary cellulose acetate, is an almost completely acetylated cellulose. Although it has fiber properties that are different, and in many ways better than cellulose acetate, it is of lower commercial significance primarily because of environmental considerations in fiber preparation. [Pg.290]

Boron trifluoride [7637-07-2] (trifluoroborane), BF, was first reported in 1809 by Gay-Lussac and Thenard (1) who prepared it by the reaction of boric acid and fluorspar at duU red heat. It is a colorless gas when dry, but fumes in the presence of moisture yielding a dense white smoke of irritating, pungent odor. It is widely used as an acid catalyst (2) for many types of organic reactions, especially for the production of polymer and petroleum (qv) products. The gas was first produced commercially in 1936 by the Harshaw Chemical Co. (see also Boron COMPOUNDS). [Pg.159]

At this writing anticholinergic agents are not widely used for the symptomatic treatment of asthma, although compounds such as atropine [51 -55-8] C17H23NO3, (18) have been used for centuries (111). Inhalation of the smoke produced by burning herbal mixtures, such as Datura Stramonium provided bronchodilation and rehef from some of the symptoms of asthma. The major active component in these preparations was atropine or other closely related alkaloids (qv). [Pg.442]

Two subgrades of SMR 5 are SMR 5RSS and SMR 5ADS, which are prepared by direct baling of ribbed smoked sheet and air-dried sheet (ADS), respectively. [Pg.266]

TSR 5. Within the Malaysian scheme SMR 5 is restricted to mbber derived from sheet material prepared by conventional processes, ie, ribbed smoked sheet (RSS), air-dried sheet (ADS), and unsmoked sheet (USS) and presented in small bale form. Other countries may source different raw materials, eg, Indonesia produces SIR 5 from thin latex coagulum (14). SMR 5 prepared by pressing dry-sheet material into standard bales must be identified by the type of sheet material, eg, SMR 5RSS, on the test certificate as well as on the wrapping. [Pg.268]

The amount of morphine in commercial opium varies from 3 to 25 per cent. In Macedonian and Turkey opiums the pereentage is usually 15 to 21, and in the Persian drug 10 to 12. Indian opium, as prepared for smoking, may eontain 4 to 6 per cent., but as exported for the manu-... [Pg.178]

Marijuana is the name given to the dried leaves and flower heads of the hemp plant, Cannabis sativa, prepared as a smoking mixture. [Pg.744]

There is a decreased effectiveness of fluoxetine in patients who smoke cigarettes during administration of die drug. Fluoxetine is not administered witii lithium because this combination can increase lithium levels. The SSRIs are not administered witii herbal preparations containing St. Jbhn s wort because tiiere is an increased risk for severe reactions. [Pg.287]
