Test certification

TSR 5. Within the Malaysian scheme SMR 5 is restricted to mbber derived from sheet material prepared by conventional processes, ie, ribbed smoked sheet (RSS), air-dried sheet (ADS), and unsmoked sheet (USS) and presented in small bale form. Other countries may source different raw materials, eg, Indonesia produces SIR 5 from thin latex coagulum (14). SMR 5 prepared by pressing dry-sheet material into standard bales must be identified by the type of sheet material, eg, SMR 5RSS, on the test certificate as well as on the wrapping. 

Testing, certification, and installation rules for reheving devices are extensive. Eveiy chemical engineer responsible for the design or operation of process units should become veiy familiar with these rules. The pressure-relief-device paragraphs are the only parts of Sec. TII, Division I, that are concerned with the installation and ongoing operation of the facility all other rules apply only to the design and manufacture of the vessel. 

With objects requiring long-term (up to 30 years) protection and/or large amounts of anode material, a particular alloy is occasionally specified whose properties are strictly controlled in production. A test certificate indicating the type of anode material is usually required (e.g.. Ref. 33). 

The manufacturers had provided a test certificate stating that the valve was made from 304L steel.

Factory-built equipment will be constructed to the relevant Standards and will be pressure tested for safety and leaks at the works. In cases of doubt, a test certificate should be requested for all such items. 

Finally, it must be pointed out that all explosion protection devices or systems used in practice may be used only when their pressure rating, flameproof, and functional testing have been proved by competent bodies and their test results including the limits of application are documented in a type test certificate. 

A validation test certificate, at least according to the system-suitability protocol, should be supplied when an instrument is sold.

Karl Fischer Titrators These titrators measure moisture (water) in a variety of samples. The titrant s concentration is usually expressed as titer, or grams of water consumed per milliliter of titrant. Standardization involves a certified primary standard (a material containing a known amount of water). This standard is purchased in ampules and is accompanied by a test certificate indicating traceability to a reference material. In addition, the titrator should be calibrated for the titrant volume measurement. The moisture can be measued by weight loss upon drying and checked against the Karl Fischer results.

If test certifications for spring-loaded valves on gas show the valve coefficient (API coefficient of discharge, Kd) to be less than 0.95, vendors proposals for that particular valve design shall be submitted to the end user for verification and approval of valve sizes. 

The ASME code consists of establishing the rules of safety governing the (i) design (ii) fabrication (iii) inspection during construction (materials, design, fabrication, examination, inspection, testing, certification and pressure relief) of boilers and pressure vessels. The rules were formulated to meet the needs and objectives of users, manufacturers and inspectors of pressure vessels. The formulated rules afford reasonable protection of life and property and provide a margin for deterioration in service in the useful lifetime. Any pressure boiler that is fabricated must meet the specifications and, after inspection, it is certified and provided with a stamp of approval.

It is recommended that Validation Reports follow the same structure as their corresponding Validation Plans so that the two documents can be read side by side and the course of the validation followed step by step. Figure 11.7 illustrates this relationship. A summary for each phase of the validation exercise should be prepared. Details of test outcomes, test certificates, documentation, etc., should be included. Test environments should be described in outline, and any test prerequisites discussed in case they qualify, or even undermine, the overall validation conclusion reached. 

Eield junction box drawings can range in complexity from a simple cable termination box or cabinet, to a local control station containing electrical/pneumatic equipment. Complex junction boxes may require information similar to that described above for instrument panels (e.g., specifications, drawings, test certificates), depending on the level of complexity involved. 

In ruggedness assessment regarding the column, the specificity (selectivity) of at least three columns, from three different batches, supplied by one column manufacturer must be checked. A similar column from another manufacturer should also be evaluated. Variability also arises from the degradation of the column over its lifetime. Even columns with the same material and dimensions may vary in performance and selectivity. If columns are packed in the laboratory, they should be tested before they are first used. Columns purchased from vendors should be supplied with test certificates.
