Maintenance Process

Training for process maintenance employees are trained by the employer in maintaining the integrity of proces.s equipment. This training includes an overview of the proces.s, its hazanls and the procedures for safe operation. [Pg.32]

This system is called wet NO control. Water or steam is injected into the primary combustion zone. This method has been used ef fectively in the past. Current installations are using this system when the water or steam is readily available or if they are already part of the process. Maintenance costs are higher when compared with dry control, because this method requires high quality water. If high quality water is not used, the corrosion associated with dissolved minerals in the water may prematurely damage the turbine. [Pg.491]

Many flame arrester mannfactnrers provide training conrses on inspection and maintenance of flame arresters, either at their facilities or a client s plant. It is recommended that snch conrses be schednled for operating and maintenance personnel. Also, the OSPLA PSM standard, 29 CFR 1910.119 (j)(3), shonld be consnlted for reqnirements for training for process maintenance activities. [Pg.150]

Sections 2.5.1 to 2.5.7 are not an exhaustive list of equipment, process, maintenance, and data processing factors that influence failure rate, but they are an attempt to make the reader aware of the problems. The following example illustrates some of the points made ... [Pg.13]

Assuming the P/O-quotient of NADH is 2 and NADPH can be used bioenerge-tically, about 0.5 acetate must be oxidized to neutralize the synthesis. This expenditure of substrate diminishes the product yield coefficient from 0.72 g poly(3HB) per g acetic acid (Table 3) to about 0.57 g per g. Since the experimentally obtained yield coefficient is lower (being, on average, about 0.33 g per g, Table 3), we may draw three conclusions. Firstly, the P/O-quotient is lower than 2. Secondly, the fate of acetate is not strictly determined, i. e., its utilization is not a one-way path and does not terminate in a dead end. Third, there is no doubt that some energy generated from acetate is necessary for homeostasis and turnover processes (maintenance) under conditions of poly(3HB) synthesis and accumulation (with acetic acid as an uncoupler). [Pg.141]

The two prime objectives of this process, maintenance of good odor and color in the distillate and proper bottoms yield, are achieved by effective control over vacuum, temperature, and distillation rate. [Pg.1488]

In practical applications, a common objective is to have a capability index of 2.0 while a value greater than 1.5 is considered to be acceptable. If the Cpi value is too low, it can be improved by making a change that either reduces process variability or causes 5c to move closer to the target. These improvements can be achieved in a number of ways that include better process control, better process maintenance, reduced variability in raw materials, improved operator training, and process changes. [Pg.38]

The main dietary precursors of vitamin A-type compounds are the carotenes, chiefly /3-carotene. Compounds derived from this isoprenoid substance (Table 6.2) are involved in the visual process, maintenance of epithelial cell integrity, and even protection against neoplasms. Vitamin A-related compounds may be toxic if ingested in excessive amounts. [Pg.139]

Dihydrate process maintenance costs are substantially less than those for hemi processes due to less severe process conditions. The on-stream factor is also higher for the average dihydrate facility. [Pg.1098]

Exposures to ethyl acrylate monomer are most likely to occur in an occupational environment via skin contact and inhalation. However, the closed systems used during manufacture and transportation will limit worker exposures to those that may occur during routine process maintenance, periodic plumbing leaks, and the collection of quality control samples. Under these conditions, exposures are further limited by the use of industrial hygiene controls and personal protective equipment. The acrid odor of ethyl acrylate, which can be detected at 0.001-0.005 ppm, also serves to limit exposure. Studies of monomer production workers have indicated that... [Pg.1090]

For most aerobic fermentation processes, maintenance of absolute sterility is critical to cell growth and biomass production. Culture growth rate determines susceptibility to culture contamination. Mammalian cells divide in a day, while microbials divide in an hour or less. The difference in growth rate makes slower-growing mammalian cell cultures more susceptible... [Pg.957]

A typical feature of these systems is that they permit users to develop their own applications by configuring/amending predefined software modules and also developing new application software modules. Each application (of the standard product) is therefore specific to the user process. Maintenance becomes a key issue, particularly when new versions of the standard product are produced. [Pg.383]

CFR1910.119(j)(3) 4.5.5 Training for process maintenance activities - The employer shall train each employee involved in maintaining the on-going integrity of process equipment in an overview of that process and its hazards and in the procedures applicable to the employee s job tasks to assure that the employee can perform the job tasks in a safe manner. [Pg.301]

Airworthiness of civil aircraft depends upon a process by which a team composed of aircraft manufacturers, regulators, and one or more airlines predicts possible system failures. This process. Maintenance Steering Group 3 (MSG-3), considers possible failure pathways (e.g., in structures, controls, avionics) and for each pathway determines a recovery strategy. For structural failure, this may be replacement after a fixed service life, regular inspection to ensure detection, or an indication to crew of the malfunction. The concern here is with the reliability of the primary failure recovery system for aircraft structural inspection regular inspection to ensure detection. [Pg.1908]

TA-V Standard Operating Procedure (TA-V SOP) Operations procedure which implement the Technical Safety Requirements (TSR), to address specific topics (e.g. isotope processing, maintenance, normal operations), or required by the SNL ES H manual to address special hazard categories. TA-V SOPs are reviewed by the appropriate HCF safety committee and are approved by line management prior to implementation. [Pg.308]

Two important uncertainties in repairable equipments are related to their reliability parameters and to the effect of maintenance activities on the equipment ageing process. Maintenance effectiveness and parameters included in the life time distributions use to be unknown parameters which must be estimated through real data. Then, it seems necessary that any decision making process in these applications must address uncertainties associated to maintenance effectiveness and reliability parameters and their propagation to the objective functions as decision criteria. [Pg.477]

Into the model proposed, each one of the processes (planning, support processes, maintenance execution and control and improvement) is defined by UML diagrams using the Eriksson-Penker Business Extensions that indicate the sequence of activities for the execution of every stage. [Pg.502]

Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are cells isolated from the inner mass of blastocysts." The mechanisms by which ESCs maintain self-renewal and pluripotency are still not yet fully understood. Many reports highlight the involvement of miRNAs as crucial players in ESCs regulation and ESCs development. In fact ESCs lose their self-renewal differentiation capacity, following alterations in the machineiy involved in miRNAs processing, maintenance and activity. Potential clinical applications of ES cells raise many practical and ethical concerns. Many nations currently have moratoria on either ES cell research or the production of new ES cell lines. Because of their combined abilities of unlimited expansion and pluripotency, embiyonic stem cells remain a theoretically potential source for regenerative medicine and tissue replacement after injuiy or disease. [Pg.268]

A preventive maintenance program can be developed for any industrial function that has a maintenance component. The same principles used in the truck operator example in this chapter can be used for other mobile equipment, machinery, or process maintenance (see Figure A.3). It matters little the type of maintenance. It is more important that the workers, operators, supervisors, and management realize that the care taken in prevention will pay dividends in cost savings, accident costs, less equipment damage, and better overall working conditions and employee attitudes. Care of your physical assets (physical plant, vehicles, machinery, etc.) is critical to the bottom line. The bonus is that you will reduce one of the factors that can contribute to your occupational injury rate. [Pg.247]

It is recommended that gas process plant engineering and operations personnel include mercury monitoring and assessment programs in their process maintenance and turnaround programs. [Pg.264]
