Samples, quality control

In Denmark, a similar system is used by Milj0-Kemi for commercial production of quality control samples for a number of different solvents and some inorganic gases see Table 6.1. [Pg.197]

Ensure that the analytical methodology gives reliable results in terms of identity (absence of false-positive findings) and of absence (no false-negative findings) of the analyte(s). This requires processing of concurrent analytical quality control samples. [Pg.52]

An approximately 10-g water sample is acidified with 60 qL of formic acid and placed in a test-tube on the Benchmate Workstation along with up to 50 samples in total including any spiked quality control samples. [Pg.512]

Fresh oxamyl standards were prepared for each fortification event. Concentrations of 50 and 400 qg mL analytical-grade oxamyl were prepared in a 20% acetonitrile-80% FIPLC-grade water solution. The solutions were tranferred in 1-mL aliquots into uniquely identified vials so that each vial contained the correct volume of oxamyl standard to fortify one quality control sample. The vials were shipped as needed during the course of the study to each field site. [Pg.968]

To fortify a sample, the label from a fortification sampling vial was removed and secured to the pre-labeled sample jar. Spike vials were individually shaken before use. The cap was discarded, the contents of the vial were poured into the sample jar and then the vial was dropped into the sample. The sample jar was capped with a Tefion-lined lid, hand shaken to mix, placed in a Kapak bag and sealed. Jars were placed immediately in storage freezers. In all cases, quality control samples were transported and stored with their corresponding field plot samples throughout sample handling and shipment to the analytical facility. [Pg.968]

To understand the importance of using standards, reference materials and quality control samples. [Pg.99]

Check reagents, standards and reference materials to ensure that adequate stocks of the correct grades are available. Where reagents and quality control samples require preparation, this may need to be done in advance. If stocks of prepared reagents already exist, these must be checked to ensure that they are still usable. All reagents should be well-labelled. [Pg.101]

The analysis of quality control samples is an important activity for laboratories and to make the most of the data, control charts should be used. This chapter has discussed a number of common types of control chart and described how they are set up and interpreted. [Pg.177]

Once analytical results have been produced, invariably a certain amount of manipulation is necessary to translate the results into information that can be understood by the customer. The reporting analyst may have to sort and process a large and varied amount of information in order to produce a small number of final answers. Data from standards may be used to produce calibration curves or calibrate instrument response. Results from quality control samples will have been plotted on charts to ensure that the system was working satisfactorily at the time the measurements were made. Sample data will be quantified by comparison with the standards and suitable corrections made. Then, checks may be made to confirm the results by examining the answers to look for any obvious wrong data. It is... [Pg.207]

Rao et al.20 demonstrated a fluorescence polarization immunoassay for evaluating serum concentrations of tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline, imipramine, clomipramine, and doxepin) with respect to nonresponse, compliance, therapeutic window, and influences of age, sex, substance abuse, and toxicity. Abbott Laboratories TDx/TDxFLx Toxicology Tricyclic Assay FPIA (fluorescence polarization immunoassay) was used. This assay of 50 /uL samples contained tricyclic antidepressant antibodies raised in rabbits and fluorescein-labeled tricyclic antidepressant as a tracer. The assay was calibrated with imipramine in the range of 75 to 1000 fig/L (268 to 3571 nmol/L). Intra-assay and inter-assay coefficients of variation for internal quality control samples from the manufacturer were 4.2 and 4.7%, respectively. The limits of detection were 72,71,64, and 72 nmol/L for amitriptyline, imipramine, clomipramine, and doxepin, respectively. This high-throughput immunoassay was easy to use although amitriptyline, dosulepine, desipramine, and nortriptyline showed cross-reactivities ranging from 74 to 100%. [Pg.301]

If there is a question of either loss of sample or contamination during transport, a quality control sample can be included with the shipment. A sample containing a known amount of the analyte or one of its related compounds can be included with the samples during transport. If the analyte or related material is changed in any way, then the samples are not acceptable for further investigation. [Pg.165]

Briefly, to assure quality assurance and quality control, samples are analyzed using standard analytical procedures. A continuing program of analytical laboratory quality control verifies data quality and involves participation in interlaboratory crosschecks, and replicate sampling and analysis. When applicable, it is advisable, even insisted upon by the EPA, that analytical labs be certified to complete the analysis requested. However, in many cases, time constraints often do not allow for sufficient method validation. Many researchers have experienced the consequences of invalid methods and realized that the amount of time and resources required to solve problems discovered later exceeds what would have been expended initially if the validation studies had been performed properly. [Pg.175]

Quality control samples must be identical and homogeneous so that the analytical sampling error is only a negligible fraction of the expected analytical error. [Pg.251]

Figure 4) No systematic error is present. The only error contribution is the result of random deviations in the results obtained for the two quality control samples, A and B. [Pg.261]

The use of standard solutions, reference standards, and quality control samples, whether prepared by the laboratory or purchased commercially, is essential to valid analyses of test and control article/carrier mixtures and biological fluids (blood, serum, plasma, etc). [Pg.75]

Neither one-point nor two-point calibrations have room to test the model or statistical assumptions, but as long as the model has been rigorously validated its use in the laboratory has been verified, these methods can work well. Typical use of this calibration is in process control in pharmaceutical companies, where the system is very well known and controlled and there are sufficient quality control samples to ensure on-going performance. [Pg.64]

The quality control samples are prepared as described in Table 1.4.3. Target values are calculated according to the amount of weighed product, and values obtained must be within 15% of the target value. [Pg.44]
