The practical considerations necessary for building thermonuclear power plants (driven through ITER, DEMO and other projects) require deeper insight into the structure and properties of ions, atoms and their separate isotopes. [Pg.439]

The cost of decommissioning may be considerable, and comes of course at the point when the project is no longer generating funds. Some source of funding will therefore be required, and this may be available from the profit of other projects, from a decommissioning fund set up during the field life or through tax relief rolled back over the late field production period. [Pg.365]

All audits should be conducted against a standard for the performance being measured. Examinations without such a standard are surveys, not audits. Audits can also be conducted against contracts, project plans, specifications - in fact any document with which the organization has declared it will comply. The standard now requires system audits to be conducted to verify compliance with ISO/TS 16949 and any other system requirements. [Pg.510]

Scrap steel In some fortunate instances a disused pipeline or other metal structure in close proximity to the project requiring cathodic protection may be used. However, it is essential in cases of scrap steel or iron groundbeds to ensure that the steelwork is completely electrically continuous, and multiple cable connections to various parts of the groundbed must be used to ensure a sufficient life. Preferential corrosion can take place in the vicinity of cable connections resulting in early electrical disconnection, hence the necessity for multiple connections. [Pg.208]

Since then this method has been used to solve numerous other complex crystal structures [6-13]. Because solving a stmcture from a single projection requires a short (3 to 5 A) crystal axis, the method was later extended to combine the information from several orientations which allows also to uncover stmctures with pronounced overlap of the atom columns in projection. This technique was applied in 1990 to solve the 3D stmcture of the mineral staurolithe HFe2Al9Si404 [14, 15] and more recently to determine the stmcture of the huge quasicrystal approximant v-AlCrFe [16] which contains 129 atoms per as5mimetric unit. How CIP works to solve a crystal stmcture from projected data is shown in figure 10 (for further details see [17]). [Pg.247]

Other activities that fall within the area of postmarketing surveillance require input from, if not handling by, those responsible for clinical drug safety. These may include observational (non-interventional) studies, which may be retrospective or prospective, and other projects specifically designed to investigate a safety issue. [Pg.338]

There is a substantial range of costs for Geo-Cleanse in situ chemical oxidation. Factors impacting project costs include the volume and distribution of contamination, the quantity and nature of the contaminant, and the hydraulic conductivity of the formation. These parameters effect the number of injectors needed, amount of hydrogen peroxide and other reagents required, and the time requirements for delivery of injections to the subsurface. Unit costs for large sites with high contamination levels have been reported to be less than 50/kg of contaminant oxidized. Conversely, small low-level contamination sites can be associated with costs over 100/kg of contaminant oxidized (D186612, p. 10). [Pg.613]

Treatment price is within the range of 150 to 250 per ton of feed based on a 1990 estimate. This cost is dependent on waste type, specific contaminants, and other project-specific variables including disposal requirements and restrictions and the amount of waste processed. This estimate is based on a lower treatment limit of approximately 5000 yd of waste material. This limit was chosen to keep the mobilization charges to bring equipment on-site within reason (D12698R, p. 203). [Pg.1118]

But present situation in gas industry contains serious uncertainties. All main future perspectives in gas production - Shtokmanovskoye field, Yamal peninsula fields, Kovykta fields, Sakhalin project - requires significant amount of investments and technological innovations. From the other side, the wear percentage in present supplying capacities is above 50%. In addition since 1998 financial crisis low domestic gas prices were sustained. This invoked the misbalance of fuel for energy production in favor of natural gas and thus secures little amount of money for infrastructure modernization and innovations. [Pg.140]

Describe the estimated resouces for staffing, equipment, and other specific requirements, including a time plan of the project. [Pg.485]

Gather the requirements for the systems including functional (e.g. operational checks) requirements, nonfunctional (e.g., coding standards) requirements, users, company-wide regulatory compliance (e.g., Part 11 technical control), safety, process, and other applicable requirements Characterize information, assess its value to the organization, and incorporate information quality as part of the project plan Conduct a system (hardware, software, and process) risk analysis. New requirements may be found as the result of the risk analysis. Any new requirements must be documented in the requirements specification deliverable... [Pg.40]

However, not every environmental project requires a comprehensive and elaborate planning document. Usually the contents and the format of the SAP are determined by such factors as contractual requirements, regulatory agency oversight, or by financial constraints. A smaller document that contains the most essential SAP elements in combination with the Laboratory QA Manual may be as functional as a full-scale SAP. Appendix 7 presents an example of a SAP table of contents. A SAP prepared in this format is a very effective document that communicates the information essential for project implementation and assessment phases without being overloaded with information available from other sources. [Pg.80]

Table 8.3 summarizes the actual or estimated prices to build a variety of chemical and refinery process plants. The stated costs do not include associated tankage, utilities, effluent treatment, service roads, general-purpose buildings, spare parts, or all the other components required to complete a major project. These additional offsite facilities are typically considered to add 50% onto the cost of a project. [1, 2]... [Pg.304]

Approval of a project requires the consent of many people, but a single "no" can cause the project to collapse. This mechanism has the potential of being misused by individuals to undermine projects they personally do not like. Risky projects (projects are by definition risky) are frequently surrounded by people who question the entire project by emphasizing one or the other inherent risk. If their concern has been recognized before and was considered during previous decisions, such criticism seems inappropriate and the critics should be requested to provide more constructive proposals. [Pg.46]

The integration office should actively support the teams in problem solving where projects are expected to have a high impact and imply a considerable degree of change. All the other projects can be supported as and when required. This may mean, for example, actively moderating the process of problem solving... [Pg.195]
