Although many of the training programs focus on practicing pharmacists, pharmacy students have also become active in advocating immunizations. Students in all 81 APhA Academy of Students of Pharmacy chapters and 40 Student National Pharmaceutical Association chapters have been involved with Operation Immunization The Nation s Pharmacy Students and Practitioners Protecting the Public Health. Since its inception in 1997, Operation Immunization has helped provide more than 125,000 vaccinations. 

In 1993, the Health Education Authority and the National Pharmaceutical Association published Health Promotion and the Community Pharmacist ,which serves as a practical guide for all health promotion activities that can be carried out by British pharmacists from the community pharmacy.

The US. Pharmacopeia (USP XXII) or National Formula (NFXVII) (20) also provide a similar description however, the peroxide value is not defined (Table 9). These specifications are also given in the Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients (HPE), pubhshed jointiy by the American Pharmaceutical Association and The Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (21), which defines lecithins both from plants and eggs. The Merck Index (22) specifies a slightiy lower acid value. The Japanese Monograph (ISCI-II) (23) specifies a slightiy lower acetone-insoluble matter and a lower heavy-metal content. 

Several national organizations serve the professional needs of U.S. pharmacists. These reflect the practice milieu of members, eg, independent community pharmacies, chain dmg stores, and hospitals. The American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA), founded in 1852, is composed of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science, Academy of Pharmaceutical Practice and Management, and the Academy of Students of Pharmacy. Other organizations include the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP), National Association of Chain Dmg Stores (NACDS), and National Association of Retail Dmggists (NARD).

The EFPIA is situated in Brussels and has, as its members, 25 national pharmaceutical industry associations and leading pharmaceutical companies. Much of the Federation s work is concerned with the activities of the European Commission and the new EMEA.

The pharmaceutical industry is represented by several organizations. Examples are the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, the Non-Prescription Drug Manufacturers Association, and the National Pharmaceutical Council, The schools and colleges of pharmacy are organized as the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, representing both schools and colleges, and faculty members. 

Each state has a professional pharmacy organization, some of which are affiliated with the American Pharmaceutical Association, Similarly, state organizations of hospital pharmacists exist in affiliation with the ASHP, Likewise, local or county associations exist in most instances. Each national association publishes a journal as do most state organizations, The FederalRegister reports proposed and enacted federal regulatory occurrences several times a week. Each stale has a similar publication to report its legislation and regulatory developments, e.g The Pennsylvania Bulletin.

The ACPE was formed in 1932 by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), the American Pharmaceutical Association, and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) for the accreditation of preservice education. The (US) Chlorine Chemistry Council (CCC), a business council of the American Chemistry Council, is a national trade association based in Arlington, VA, representing the manufacturers and users of chlorine and chlorine-related products. CCC strives to achieve policies that promote the continuing, responsible uses of chlorine and chlorine-based products. Chlorine is widely used as a disease-fighting disinfection agent, as a basic component in pharmaceuticals and myriad other products that are essential to modern life. 

The National Wholesale Druggist Association (NDWA) vehemently objected to such measures since the use of stamps and detailed record keeping would greatly increase the cost of doing business. The NDWA also objected to the inclusion of cannabis on the proscribed list. Dr. Charles West, their spokesman, said that there was no reason to consider cannabis in the same class as opium, morphine, and cocaine, since it was not habit forming. Dr. William Muir, spokesman for the New York Pharmaceutical Association, pointed out that cannabis was a major ingredient in com cures. Having to keep detailed records of every sale of com cures was ridiculous. 

The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) is the representative body of the pharmaceutical industry in Europe. Its members are the national industry associations of over 20 countries producing pharmaceuticals in Europe. 

The hospitality offered by the Pharmaceutical Companies Association to health professionals must be of secondary importance to professional or scientific events. The standard of accommodation must be reasonable and appropriate to the event and the expenses incurred should not exceed what participants would have paid for themselves. Specific requests from a physician for the total or partial covering of his or her travel/accommodation expenses should be submitted to the National Medical Association, the Conseil National de L Ordre des Medecins (CNOM) if it relates to a national/ international conference, or to the Regional Medical Association for regional conferences.

Since its founding, APhA has been a leader in the professional and scientific advancement of pharmacy, and in safeguarding the well-being of the individual patient. 

The American Pharmaceutical Association was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1852 by a group of pharmacists from across the young nation who were concerned about the quality of medicinal products and the standards of practice of those engaged in the apothecary, or pharmacy, trade. 

The Canadian Pharmaceutical Association (CPhA) was founded in September 1907 as a national body for the profession of pharmacy in Canada. Its involvement in publishing began early in its history with the assumption of responsibility for the Canadian Formulary in 1929. The first edition of the Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties (CPS) was publi.shed in 1960 and continues today, along with a number of other well-respected health care publications including Nonprescription Drug Reference for Health Professionals, Compendium of Nonprescription Products, Therapeutic Choices, and Herbs Everyday Reference for Health Professionals. The latter is published jointly with the Canadian Medical Association. 

National Institute for Standards in Pharmacist Credentialing (NISPC). The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) was established in 1995 as a national voluntary certification program for pharmacy technicians. Its founders were the American Pharmaceutical Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Michigan Pharmacists Association. 

Forms to document patient assessments and educational session content are abundant. Individual practices can modify these forms to meet their specific locations needs. Examples of these forms are often included in certificate programs such as those offered by the National Community Pharmacist Association, American Pharmaceutical Association, American Association of Diabetes Educators, and state pharmacy organizations.
