Chlorine Chemistry Council

At that time (1994-96), I had research support for a project on estrogenic compounds funded by the Chemical Manufacturers Association (CMA) my only official contact with the association was Ann Mason, Director of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs (Chlorine Chemistry Council, CMA), who asked for a yearly report. My opinions on the endocrine disruptor hypothesis have been based on analysis of scientific publications and have been consistent prior to, during, and after the research (not personal) support from the CMA.

The (US) Chlorine Chemistry Council (CCC), a business council of the American Chemistry Council, is a national trade association based in Arlington, VA, representing the manufacturers and users of chlorine and chlorine-related products. CCC strives to achieve policies that promote the continuing, responsible uses of chlorine and chlorine-based products. Chlorine is widely used as a disease-fighting disinfection agent, as a basic component in pharmaceuticals and myriad other products that are essential to modern life.

Because the chlorine industry has a tradition of mutual cooperation in matters of safety and the environment, the process of improvement was soon taken to international level. In Europe the Bureau International Technique du Chlore (BIT) was established in 1954 and in 1989 renamed as Euro Chlor. 1991 Euro Chlor was expanded to combine various chlorine-related associations for derivatives, solvents and paraffins and today is an affiliate of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC). In the USA, work coordinated by the Chlorine Institute and the Chlorine Chemistry Council.
