Representative Bodies

To allow objectivity of the findings, ElA s are usually carried out by independent specialists or organisations. It will involve not only scientific experts, but also require consultation with official and representative bodies such as the government ministries for the environment, fisheries, food, agriculture, and local water authorities. In activities which may impact on local population (terminals, refineries, access roads, land developments) local representatives of the inhabitants may be consulted, and the public affairs function... 

The reader will no doubt wonder how any conflict with this law could be possible for a person Tike you and me , a person who has lived a decent, industrious life, has no prior convictions - not even a traffic violation -, who has devoted considerable efforts to working on a volunteer basis for the public good. It would take an entire page just to list all the functions and offices W. Liiftl has held and who was ultimately elected to serve in a politically unaffiliated and independent capacity as President of the representative body of his profession - the Federal Austrian Chamber of Engineers. How can it be possible for such a man to come into conflict with the law previously set out and be branded as dangerous criminal subject to twenty years imprisonment ...

The prices of magistral formulae and pharmacy-made preparations are recorded in the Medicinal Products and Preparations General Prices Scheme, which is reviewed annually by INFARMED after hearing the opinions of the Department of Competition and Prices, the College of Pharmacists and the pheirmacies representative bodies. The prices are approved by a despacho from the Minister of Health. 

The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) is the representative body of the pharmaceutical industry in Europe. Its members are the national industry associations of over 20 countries producing pharmaceuticals in Europe.

We do recognise the international dimension of many environmental problems but these -have to be tackled by coordinated action - bilateral as well as multilateral - between industry, governments and their respective international representative bodies, organisations and the public concerned. 

This method was developed by Dearden and Tomlinson. It consists of four compartments. One compartment represents the oral cavity, and initially contains an appropriate concentration of drug in a buffer. The next compartment represents the buccal membrane and the third compartment represents body fluid. The last compartment represents protein binding. Before use, the solutions in first, second, and fourth compartments are saturated with each other. Samples were withdrawn and returned to the first compartment with a syringe.

Born out of purely local initiative, the Societe chimique was soon able to attract many non-Parisians (including a large number of foreigners). Internationally, the BEAI is the Irish representative body for the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE) (www.ifmbe.org) Organisation. The Secretary of the BEAI attends the secretarial meetings of the IFMBE representing the interests of the Association at these meetings. The IFMBE recently endorsed the 2008 Annual Scientific Meeting of the BEAI. 

One, which if we may judge from the frequency of its repetition seems most to be relied on, is that the House of Representatives is not sufficiently numerous for the reception of all the different classes of citizens in order to combine the interests and feelings of every part of the community, and to produce a due sympathy between the representative body and its constituents. This argument presents itself under a very specious and seducing form and is well calculated to lay hold of the prejudices of those to whom it is addressed. But when we come to dissect it with attention it will appear to be made up of nothing but fair sounding words. The object it seems to aim at is in the first place impracticable, and in the sense in which it is contended for is unnecessary. I reserve for another place [No. 54] the discussion of the question which relates to the sufficiency of the representative body in respect to numbers and shall content myself with examining here the particular use which has been made of a contrary supposition in reference to the immediate subject of our inquiries.
