Maintenance manual

Vendors will supply instructions for operation and maintenance of each system or piece of equipment. Plant personnel should make sure that the vendor s requirements are practicable and in line with established plant practices. All the relevant information then can be compiled for inclusion in a maintenance manual. The size of the plant and the nature of its organization will determine whether it is better to gather all maintenance information into a central comprehensive set of dedicated maintenance manuals or to file it by equipment item as part of the operating manuals. In either case, the plant must have clearly established lines of responsibility and well imderstood rules for performing certain types of work under permit (see Section 7.1.4). The maintenance information should cover the following  [Pg.188]

Radiographic Used to examine the internal soundness of weldments and metals by bombarding the piece with x-rays or gamma rays. Sharp picture of defects. Film provides a permanent record Spedal personnel protection and training required. Both sides of the piece must be accessible. [Pg.189]

Ultrasonic Uses high-frequency sound waves to locate defects. Very sensitive can detect very fine surface and subsurface cracks. Equipment is portable Personnel must be trained to interpret equipment response. Not effective on rough surfaces or welds with backing rings. [Pg.189]

Dye-penetrant Used for surface defects. A liquid dye is applied to a clean, dry surface and allowed to penetrate surface cracks and dry. A developer put over the surface causes the dye to outline the defect dearly. Useful for nonmagnetic materials. Can be used on nozzles and surfaces difficult to inspect radiographically. Detects surface defects only. Not practical on rough surfaces. [Pg.189]

The assigned custodian of the maintenance manuals should see that they are  [Pg.190]

Don t start the pump until after completing all the previously mentioned points, and any other specification mentioned in the operation and maintenance manual of the pump provided by the pump supplier. Not doing this could cause equipment damage and even personal injury. It might even void the pump guarantee. [Pg.154]

For a quality manual to be a manual it should contain the procedures and instructions, as does a computer manual or a car maintenance manual, so whether one volume of the manual contains or refers to other documents does not prevent the collection of documents being referred to as the quality manual. Manuals tend to include operating instructions, hence the word manual. The quality manual should therefore contain all the policies and practices but not necessarily in one volume. [Pg.161]

The reason for an Exposition is so that there is a description of the system showing how it works and how it controls the achievement of quality. This is different from the policies and procedures. The policies are a guide to action and decision and as such are prescriptive. The procedures are the methods to be used to carry out certain tasks and as such are task related. They need to be relatively simple and concise. A car maintenance manual, for example, tells you how to maintain the car but not how the car works. Some requirements, such as those on traceability and identification, cannot be implemented by specific procedures although you can have specific policies covering such topics. There is no sequence of tasks you can perform to achieve traceability and identification. These requirements tend to be implemented as elements of many procedures which when taken as a whole achieve the traceability and identification requirements. In order that you can demonstrate achievement of such requirements and educate your staff, a description of the system rather than a separate procedure would be an advantage. The Exposition can be structured around the requirements of ISO/TS 16949 and other governing standards. It is a guide or reference document and not auditable. [Pg.164]

The above planned maintenance manual system provides a firm basis on which a computer-planned maintenance system may be developed. Having such knowledge and experience from working the manual system, the benefits that can be accrued from planned maintenance systems compared to the corrective or other non-planned methods previously used are numerous. It can be found that, due to the large amount of assets to be managed by the administration, it would be beneficial for the planned maintenance system to be transferred onto a computer system. A major non-technical weekly task is one of producing work dockets for issue and the subsequent entry into the maintenance records on completion of the work task. [Pg.788]

Clutch manufacturers generally provide complete inspection and maintenance instructions in their operations and maintenance manual. These instmctions should be carefully followed. [Pg.1003]

An organized document filing system must be maintained. This could be a paper file, an electronic document file, or a mixture of both. The equipment inventory system contains key information on the components of each system, their performance criteria and maintenance and calibration status. All documents including installation and performance documentation, as with other documents necessary to demonstrate the quality of the data, include SOPs for the qualification procedures, calibration, maintenance, personnel training, etc. If the manufacturer s operating, service, or maintenance manuals are used or cited in the operating procedures, copies of these manuals should be maintained. To facilitate retrieval, documentation should be stored in a central location and be indexed for easy retrieval. [Pg.1042]

Reference document identification (operating manuals, maintenance manuals, validation certificate). [Pg.399]

Compressor Seal Problems The extent of the leakage past the seals where the shaft comes through the casing frequently limits the running time of the compressor, yet the seals and the seal systems are not given adequate treatment in the maintenance manuals or in the operating instructions furnished by the compressor manufacturer. [Pg.70]

Oil flows and critical clearances are not spelled out well in either the operating instructions or the maintenance manuals. Because of this, several maintenance technique improvements are needed ... [Pg.70]

The operation and maintenance manual shall describe how the lubrication system circulates oil. [Pg.64]

Model 4 system described contains steel pipes. Model 10 system described is backwashable. Systems include aU piping and manual valves to comprise a complete adsorption system, enabling all operations. Equipment costs include drawings, technical submittals, and provision of an operation and maintenance manual. Freight cost may need to be added for some models. [Pg.430]
