Although such control devices are usually automatically operated, manual operation is satisfactoiy for some services. When manual operation is provided, it often consists of a valve or valves to open and close clearance pockets. In some cases, a movable cyhnder head is provided for variable clearance in the cylinder (see Fig. 10-92). 

For sampling a relatively small number of sources, a simplified calculation form may be used. Such forms enable the office personnel to perform the arithmetic necessary to arrive at the answers, freeing the technical staff for proposals, tests, and reports. If the control valve size is critical to the overpressure protection of the downstream equipment, and must not be increased, then this is clearly noted in all relevant documentation (specification sheets, flow diagram, operating manual, etc.,) and a warning notice plate is welded to the valve body. In addition to the documents that serve product manufacture and installation or service delivery, documents may also be required for maintenance and operation. The product descriptions, handbooks, operating manuals, user guides, and other documents which support the product or service in use are as much a part of the design as the other product requirements. Unlike the manufacturing data, the support documents may be published either generally or supplied with the product to the customer. The design of such documentation is critical to the success of the product, as poorly constructed handbooks can be detrimental to sales.
