Maintenance instructions

One complete set of the installation, operating, and maintenance instructions, shall be packed in the boxes or crates and shipped with the equipment. 

The standard requires the results of process studies to be documented with specifications for means of production, measurement and test, and maintenance instructions. 

Make provision in your contract procedures for requiring customers to supply handling, operating, and maintenance instructions as necessary for any product they supply. 

Define maintenance instructions stating the performance parameters to be maintained, the frequency of maintenance, how it is to be conducted, the action to be taken in the event of failure, the procedures to be followed in carrying out repairs, and the training required of those performing the maintenance tasks.

Competent personnel in conjunction with the manufacturer s maintenance instructions improve safe operation of all plant by means of regular maintenance. Re-commissioning in a safe manner should always follow this. It is particularly important that valves such as safety shut-off valves, non-return valves, etc. are regularly checked for soundness. 

Clutch manufacturers generally provide complete inspection and maintenance instructions in their operations and maintenance manual. These instmctions should be carefully followed. 

Some contractors do not leave behind the information packed with equipment they install. After all, they probably think, what use will the laboratory people have for installation instructions This material, often separate from use and maintenance instructions, will be very helpful down the line when repairs or modifications have to be made. The laboratory operator should collect all such information and file it away with care. He may never look at it again, but there could be a day when it will be urgently needed. 

Daily checks of foam systems should be made where freezing conditions exist to ensure the system is functional. Operating and maintenance instructions and layouts should be posted at control equipment with a second copy on file. All persons who are expected to inspect, test, maintain or operate foamgenerating apparatus should be thoroughly trained. Training records should be kept up to date. 

All information required for the proper installation of the equipment shall be compiled in a manual that shall be issued no later than the time of issue of final certified drawings. For this reason, it may be separate from the operating and maintenance instructions. This manual shall contain information on alignment and grouting procedures, normal and maximum utility requirements, centres of mass, rigging provisions and procedures, and all other installation data. All drawings and data specified in 9.2.2 and 9.2.3 that are pertinent to proper installation shall be included as part of this manual. 

Check the documentation for completeness (operating manuals, maintenance instructions, standard operating procedures for testing, safety, and validation certificates).

Manufacturer s specifications- The written installation and/or maintenance instructions which are developed by the manufacturer of a product and which may have to be followed in order to maintain the product warrantee. 

Before the system is actually used in the field by its customers, it is very important to develop all the service and maintenance instructions, which are well documented. Just like reliability, maintainability is considered throughout the life cycle, and its purpose is to sustain required levels of reliability and availability in the field. Maintainability program plans are developed at the planning step. 

Ensure that all of the documentation (manuals, maintenance instructions) has been supplied. Some of this might be in disk format. 

Engineering information in the form of equipment data sheets, instruments specifications, and maintenance instructions provide a necessary background to the operating instructions. 

All appointed staff are therefore required to have an understanding of the Site Licence. The engineers appointed to Operating and Maintenance positions need to have an in-depth understanding and appreciation of Station Operating Instructions (SOIs), Plant Item Operating Instructions (PIOIs), Plant Maintenance Instructions (PIMIs) and other technical and safety related matters. These are described below.

Zonal Inspection Program (ZIP) A part of an aeroplane model s overall maintenance program where the whole of the aeroplane is divided into zones. For each zone of the aeroplane, applicable maintenance instructions are identified. 

As with many positive or operational readiness trees, the first tier addresses the personnel, procedures, and plant and hardware that comprise the system. The only personnel for this system is the individual preparing the tree who will be the sole operator of the system therefore, it is represented by self shown as a base event. Procedures for this system consist primarily of the operating and maintenance instructions provided with the hardware and software. Because several sets of instructions may be involved, instructions cannot appropriately be shown as a base event, yet the instructions are not the focus of the exercise. Therefore, they are shown as an undeveloped terminal event. The real focus of the effort is the plant and hardware, in this case, the home computer. The home computer facilities and equipment consist primarily of the computer hardware and the software to make it operate. Other items are also required, like a room to set up the operation, furniture, and electrical outlets, but again they are not the focus of the effort and are therefore shown simply as other in an undeveloped terminal event symbol. 

Specified techniques and measures, namely project management, documentation, separation of safety-related systems from control systems, functional testing, maintenance instructions, user friendliness and protection against operator errors... 

On the middle level are the concrete specification documents for the operational level, which describe certain work processes and are also considered to be controlled documents, that is, they are subject to change control. Examples of documents on this level are, for example, standard operating procedures (SOPs), test instructions, manufacturing instructions, packaging instructions, specifications, calibration instructions, or maintenance instructions. 

Take care in wet or icy weather, particularly on sloping pavements, as wheelchairs tend to slide to the lowest point. Lack of maintenance or poor maintenance can lead to the wear or failure of components that may cause the wheelchair or the user to change position unexpectedly. This could lead to the user falling from the wheelchair or tipping over with the wheelchair. Adhere to manufacturer s maintenance instructions. Always use a qualified technician to service or repair the wheelchair. If the wheelchair is approved by the manufacturer for transportation of a seated person in a vehicle, make sure that you use the wheelchair tie-down and occupant restraint system specified by the manufacturer. If using large public buses or trains, use the dedicated wheelchair space and any restraint systems provided.

No modifications or additions which affect the capacity or safe operation of the equipment can be made without the manufacturer s written approval. If such modifications or changes are made, the capacity, operation, and maintenance instruction plates, tags, or decals must be changed accordingly. In no case shall the original safety factor of the equipment be reduced. 

Although covered very little in Part 1926, chain saws can be one of the most dangerous power tools at a construction site. They are often used during site clearing operations. If yoru employees use chain saws, you are required to instruct them on their safe use and to recognize and avoid unsafe conditions. Be srue to follow the written operating, adjustment, and maintenance instructions, as well as safety precautions, provided by the manufactruer of your chain saw(s).
