Journal presentations types

The chemistry community, like other scientific communities, depends on the communication of scientific results. Scientists communicate in a variety of ways, but much of the communication is through publication in books and journals. In this chapter, the different types of book and journal presentations are described, along with the components of the standard format for reporting original research. 

MEDLINE is a bibliographic database that contains more than 11 million references to journal articles from 4300 national and international biomedical journals, covering the period from 1966 to the present.Types of journals indexed in MEDLINE include pharmacy, allied health, nursing, medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, pre-clinical science, and life science journals. Each week, nearly 8000 reference citations, created by the NLM and its partners, are added to the MEDLINE database. 

Advances in Chemistry Series was founded in 1949 by the American Chemical Society as an outlet for symposia and collections of data in special areas of topical interest that could not be accommodated in the Society s journals. It provides a medium for symposia that would otherwise be fragmented, their papers distributed among several journals or not published at all. Papers are refereed critically according to ACS editorial standards and receive the careful attention and processing characteristic of ACS publications. Papers published in Advances in Chemistry Series are original contributions not published elsewhere in whole or major part and include reports of research as well as reviews since symposia may embrace both types of presentation. 

Marketing forecasts for batteries have been compiled from the Annual Reports published by several battery companies. Tsaparlis and Gorezi (2005,2007) have proposed the addition of a project-based component to a conventional expository physical chemistry laboratory. Project-type tasks were used, mainly taken from articles in the Journal of Chemical Education. Dming the performance of the project experiments, students were dedicated, patient and enthusiastic. The material included in this chapter has been organized by oxidation state, with further subdivision into ligand donor type, and was obtained from reports published in primary research journals. The article will cover coordination complexes of copper in three oxidation states Cum, Cu11, and Cu1. The sections dealing with specific ligand donor types cut across several structural types. In view of the all-inclusive nature of the previous review of CCC(1987), no effort will be made here to present a comprehensive account. Instead, specific cases will be chosen for discussion because they exemplify important concepts concerning the relationship of ligand structure to metal complex properties. 

As expected, a response to the hypercycle criticisms appeared, in fact in the same issue of the Journal of Theoretical Biology (Eigen et al., 1980). According to this, the Freiburg investigations refer to one particular evolution model, in which the occurrence of mutants with different, selective values is ignored. In such realistic models, the error threshold loses its importance for the stability of the wild type. If the latter reaches a finite fitness value, it can always be the subject of selection, as no rivals are present. 

Following are other current and recent-past ventures related to polymer education. A series of experiments appeared in the 1978 Journal of Chemical Education which is aimed at introducing polymer related experiments into traditional courses (7). More of this type of presentation must be forthcoming. 

In 1981, two eminent British cancer experts. Sir Richard Doll and Richard Peto published a paper in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute entitled The causes of cancer Quantitative estimates of avoidable risks of cancer in the United States today. The authors drew upon a vast body of literature of the type mentioned above, and attempted to allocate the deaths caused by cancers among various responsible factors. The authors concluded that a certain percentage of human cancer deaths could be avoided if exposure to the responsible factors could be eliminated or controlled in some way, although the appropriate degree and nature of control for some of the lifestyle factors, especially diet, is still highly uncertain. With the reintroduction of the RAP series, the Editorial Board decided to include two main types of articles in the journal format Perspectives and Communications. Perspectives in RAP are expected to synthesize results from the primary literature and perhaps from new/novel results and place these in perspective relative to the broader field. These articles may be similar to review articles, but also are intended to present important ideas and hypotheses, and may present proposals for interesting directions in the field. Pay attention to the formatting expectations specified in this chapter, as small or as large as they may be. In all cases, check your punctuation (periods, commas, semicolons, parentheses, etc.), capitalization, fonts, bolding, sequential numbering, and, of course, clarity of presentation. Make sure that you mention thegraphic(s) by type and number (e.g.. Figure 2, Table 1, Scheme 3) in the text of your journal article, research proposal, or poster (unless you do not have room in your poster) before the reader encounters the actual graphic. 

In the following sections, major emphasis has been placed on recent literature, appearing in the years 1955-62. The term literature means those technical journals in which research or experimental conclusions are commonly published much excellent data, and many useful correlations and observations, are available only in theses, or in institutional, industrial, or government reports. Although reports of this type which contain unique results are included in the present discussion, a deliberate attempt has been made to give priority in discussion to those articles which have been most widely circulated and are therefore most readily available.
