References citation

Most of the selected papers contain reference citations to other Pauling papers, some selected for inclusion here and some not. To help the reader make use of these citations, a citation index of the selected papers is included as Appendix II. It enables any selected paper (represented by its SP number) to be found in the anthology from a reference to it in another paper. Its Herman-Munro publication number y-n is also given. [Pg.863]

Reference The complete reference citation is given in Chapter 9 of the profile. [Pg.256]

This volume is the first since Donald Bethell served as Editor of the series, and he set a very high standard both for the quality of the contributions presented and for the excellence of the editorial work. It is my hope as the new Editor to maintain this high level, and continue to provide the chemical community with authoritative and critical assessments of different aspects of the field of physical organic chemistry. The chapters in the previous volumes provide a lasting record that is widely cited and used, and will continue to serve for decades to come. Because this series has maintained such a high level of quality and utility there is little need for change, and one of the few innovations is the adoption of the numerical system of reference citation now used by almost all chemical journals. [Pg.343]

The compounds in this section—fulvenes, isotoluenes, xylylenes—are characterized by trivial names. Our various reference citations document their nontrivial chemistry isomerization, polymerization and oxidation befall the unwary experimentalist who would study them. [Pg.93]

Numbers in parentheses are reference citation numbers. Complete references are listed in numerical order at the end of each chapter in which they are cited. [Pg.351]

The primary source of information for enthalpies of formation is J. B. Pedley, R. D. Naylor and S. P. Kirby, Thermochemical Data of Organic Compounds (2nd Ed.), Chapman Hall, New York, 1986. The successor to this volume, J. B. Pedley, Thermochemical Data and Structures of Organic Compounds, Vol. I, Thermodynamics Research Center, College Station, Texas, USA, 1994, has recently been published. We have used values from this latter source when the compounds were not included in the earlier edition. In any case, no reference citation is given except for occasionally referring to either volume as Pedley or merely archival . Where data were... [Pg.371]

Table I summarizes most of the practical methods used to achieve the concentration of organic compounds from water samples and indicates the utility of each method, the major advantages and disadvantages, and selected reference citations (3-33). These methods have been discussed previously in more detail (3). Although the methods focus primarily on trace organic chemicals, many of the principles and concerns apply to inorganic constituents as well. Notes and References Citations in the chapters appear at the end of the book. [Pg.794]

A relatively new reference citation system has been employed which rapidly becomes familiar with use and then has distinct advantages over the more common superscript number method. In this system no reference numbers appear in the text, in tables, in footnotes or at the end of chapters. Instead, each time a reference is cited there appears in angle brackets a letter code assigned to the journal, preceded by the year (tens and units only except for non-twentieth century references) and followed by the page number. For... [Pg.5]
