Journal articles

Once we have the measures, we have to apply them to chemical objects. Objects of interest to a chemist include molecules, reactions, mbrtures, spectra, patents, journal articles, atoms, functional groups, and complex chemical systems. Most frequently, the objects studied for similarity/dissimilarity are molecular structures.

You re not going to find journal articles with new syntheses written especially for X or speed anymore. The scientists of the world already have recipes that work and the access to the restricted chemicals necessary to make them work. So why should they look for anything new They don t. There is no reason for them to do so. 

Quite naturally there is a certain amount of arbitrariness in this system, although the lUPAC nomenclature is followed. The preferred Chemical Abstracts index names for chemical substances have been, with very few exceptions, continued unchanged (since 1972) as set forth in the Ninth Collective Index Guide and in a journal article. Any revisions appear in the updated Index Guide new editions appear at 18-month intervals. Appendix VI is of particular interest to chemists. Furfural has been used as a component in many resin appHcations, most of them thermosetting. A comprehensive review of the patent Hterature describing these uses is beyond the scope of this review. A few, selected recent patents and journal articles have been referenced. Resins prepared from the condensation products of furfural with urea (47), formaldehyde (48), phenols (49,50), etc, modified by appropriate binders and fillers are described in the technical Hterature for earlier appHcations, see reference 1, which contains many references in an appendix. 

Location of and access to chemical and technical information other than journal articles is avadable through computerized information networks. Electronic bulletin board systems (BBS) provide a telecommunications tool to anyone who has a computer and a modem. Questions can be posted and read by thousands of bulletin board users worldwide, and files and software are easdy transferred from virtually anywhere to one s computer. 

Apart from the technical classification information, E, the front page of the patent also contains a listing of pubHcations or references cited during examination, G, including "United States Patent Documents," "Eoreign Patent Documents," and "Other PubHcations" such as trade Hterature, journal articles, and product descriptions. 

Was the Invention Known or Used by Others The invention cannot have been pubHcly known or pubHcly used by others or the subject of a patent or pubHcation anywhere in the world prior to the appHcant s actual invention date. If someone other than the inventor has pubHshed a journal article, received a patent, or used the invention pubHcly, the inventor will not be able to receive a patent on the invention. 

A request for reexamination may be made by the patentee, a third party, or the Commissioner of the Patent and Trademark Office whenever a new question of patentabiUty arises. This new question of patentabiUty has to be raised in the form of a pubHcation such as a journal article or a patent which was not considered during the prior prosecution. Reexarnination is a more expedited and economical means of receiving a judgment on whether or not a patent is vaUd in advance of Htigation. 

Several hundred types of Hquid phases are commercially available. These have been used individually or in combination with other Hquid phases, inorganic salts, acids, or bases. A number of books and journal articles reviewing computational methods relevant to biophysical problems have been published in the last decade. Two of the most popular texts, however, were published more than ten years ago those of McCammon and Harvey in 1987 and Brooks, Karplus, and Pettitt in 1988. There has been significant progress in theoretical and computational methodologies since the publication of these books. Therefore, we feel that there is a need for an updated, comprehensive text including the most recent developments and applications in the field. 

Data resource A data base, report, technical paper, journal article, or conversation that contains reliability data subdivided into Data Bases, Data Sources, and Risk Analyses in this book. 

The Encyclopedia includes 253 alphabetically arranged entries written by 170 authors. The text is supplemented with more than 600 photographs, illustrations, sidebars, and maps. Entries contain a set of cross-references to related entries within the set, as well as a bibliography of related books and journal articles to guide readers who want to learn more about a given topic. The front matter in Volume 1 includes a list of entity topics, and the back matter in Volume 3 contains both an extensive timeline of important dates in energy history and a comprehensive subject index. 

And, indeed, Brush s evidence on this issue (given in his table 1) is striking no less than 132 of the 197 journal articles mentioning the periodic law in the period 1871-1890 fail to mention the confirmed predictions of new elements. 

Journal articles and patents contain virtually all of the original work in organic chemistry. However, if this were all, if there were no indexes, abstracts, review articles, and other secondary sources, the literature would be unusable because it is so vast that no one could hope to find anything in particular. Fortunately, the secondary sources are excellent. There are various kinds and the categories tend to merge. Our classification is somewhat arbitrary. 

So the particles making up materials are considered to be hard or soft, hotter or colder, sharp, conducting, square etc. As one journal article (Ben-Zvi, Eylon, Silberstein, 1986) asked rhetorically can an atom of copper be malleable ... 

Photocopies of journal articles relating to the Unipet process for the recycling of PETP developed by United Resource Recovery Corp. Details are given of the process which enables contaminated PETP to be recycled by the use of caustic soda which reacts with the PETP to yield ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid, followed by heating and evaporation of the EG which reduces organic impurities to carbon dioxide and water and leaves solid terephthalic salt. Its implications for the industry are also discussed. 

He is a recognized expert in solid state and materials chemistry and environmental chemistry. He has active programs in solid state f-element chemistry and nanomaterials science. His current research interests include heavy metal detection and remediation in aqueous environments, ferroelectric nanomaterials, actinide and rare-earth metal sohd slate chemistry, and nuclear non-proliferation. He currently maintains a collaboration in nuclear materials with Los Alamos National Laboratory and a collaboration in peaceful materials science development with the Russian Federal Nuclear Center - VNIIEF, Sarov, Russia, U.S. State Department projects. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and reviews, while presenting over 130 international and national invited lectures on his area of chemistry. Dr. Dorhout currently serves as Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Assistant Vice President for research. He has also served as the Interim Executive Director for the Office of International Programs and as Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education for the College of Natural Sciences at Colorado State University.

It is worth noting that the past few years have witnessed tremendous development of web-based information resources. Notably, the PubMed search tool [4] has made the investigation of any life sciences topic much easier. It offers keyword and author (as well as structure and sequence) searches and covers a wide range of medicinal chemistry-related journals. This resource, coupled with e-journals, affords the medicinal chemist the tools to keep up with any research topics of interest. Because of the public nature of the Web, now a chemist can sometimes find critical journal articles on the Web that do not show up until much later in traditional literature sources. It is not uncommon that scientific meeting presentations can be found on the Web. Indeed, the Internet tools we have all become familiar with also have made the professional life of the medicinal chemist much easier.

The literature is a rich source of information related to food products and processing. Journal articles provide extensive information, although the chances of finding an exact how to process for converting an RAC into an EPA-required processed commodity are minimal. Most journal articles deal with in-depth research and discussion of a single topic in the process or related to the product. An experienced food technologist could piece together information from several sources to define a process. 

Research on the identification of vanilloid antagonists has been pursued more intensively in industry than in academia. Thus, a SciFinder search for new chemical entities endowed with this type of activity pulled out 34 entries from the proprietary literature, and only 14 from journal articles during the period January 2004 June 2006. The patent literature can be difficult to evaluate and compare with the published data. Bioactivity is often not disclosed (or commented), and activity can be broadly claimed for a series of lead structures without specifying their optimal substitution. On the other hand, analysis of the patent literature does not only complement the published data, but also offers a preview of information that will be eventually disclosed and detailed in journals. Given the relevance of proprietary literature in the realm of vanilloids research, the main trends emerging from its analysis will be briefly summarized.
