Tsaparlis and Gorezi (2005,2007) have proposed the addition of a project-based component to a conventional expository physical chemistry laboratory. Project-type tasks were used, mainly taken from articles in the Journal of Chemical Education. Dming the performance of the project experiments, students were dedicated, patient and enthusiastic. The writing of the report and the oral presentation of the project were very demanding tasks. The evaluation of the work by the students through... [Pg.114]

Molds can be of three basic types. Open molds are used to define one surface of a product. They can be of the female (indenting) or male (projecting) type. Two matched female half-molds can be used to make hollow items, and a matched female and male pair is used to form a cavity that is to be completely filled. Shaping of the polymer inside the mold is usually achieved by applying pressure to cause the fluid to conform to one or both mold surfaces. The variation in types of molding is primarily due to the type of mold used and the method of melt delivery to the mold. [Pg.774]

Accepting the facts that the conventional expository laboratory has many problems associated with it, as well as that it is not an easy task to replace it entirely with inquiry-type practical work, Tsaparlis and Gorezi (141) proposed a modification of a conventional, one-semester, expository physical chemistry laboratory to accommodate a project-based component. Eight project-type tasks were used, mostly taken from articles in the Journal of Chemical Education, which is a rich source. The conventional experiments remained intact in this approach, being simply enriched with the project-based component. Students working cooperatively carried out both the conventional and the project parts in pairs for the conventional experiments, in groups of four for the project work. [Pg.98]

This book attempts to cover chemical and ecotoxicological analysis related to routine contaminated land investigations. It does not cover analysis related to research or specialist one-off project type investigations. The following chapter deals with soil analysis method requirements, how methods should be validated and the need for all methods to meet clearly defined performance requirements. It also covers quality assurance/quality control aspects. Chapter 3 covers the key, and problematic area of sample homogenisation and the initial sample preparation. Chapter 4 covers the analysis of metals and elemental... [Pg.3]

In addition to the quantitative limits, the EU may also develop implementation measures that restrict the use of credits from certain project types. This provision reflects concerns about the integrity... [Pg.58]

For the depropanizer column, most of the default values are acceptable. Because a single distillation system would be installed normally on an existing plant site, using utilities provided by the site, the Project Type would not be selected as Grass Roots/Clear field. This Project Type would cause new items, already provided at the site, to be included in the design and cost estimates. Typically, these include a new control system and electrical substation components. [Pg.806]

While guidelines are not provided concerning the selection of Project Type, costs can be computed for each option, if desired. Through examination of the results, the default values and items included or omitted can be observed. When selecting Plant addition -suppressed infrastructure, items involving the new control system, electrical switchgear, and transformers, are not provided. These are not needed for the addition of the depropanizer column to an existing process. [Pg.806]

As for the depropanizer discussed earlier, the MCB separation process can be viewed as representing an addition to an existing plant. Consequently, the standard basis profile is selected to be LOCAL CONTRACTOR and the Project Type is selected as Plant addition - suppressed infrastructure. [Pg.833]

Many participants meant that the checklists were most suitable as an internal quality assurance to verify that aU relevant HF-aspects in a design solution were covered. Others meant that they were good for workshops as well. It was pointed out that the checklists needed to be adapted to the project type and current project phase in order to be used effectively. [Pg.299]

These criteria were apphed to estimation of accessible area in outer port and LNG terminal of Swinou-jscie. Simulations were carried out at simulators in Marine Traffic Engineering Centre over Kongsberg s Polaris fall mission simulator. In project types of vessel were determined from point of economical value of gas transfer and maximal vessel was obtained as a Q-Flex vessel (i.e. of capacity 216000 cu.m.). Pos-sibihty of handling smaller types of vessels has been applied as well. Researches were conducted on 3 types of mathematical LNGC s models of parameters ... [Pg.1951]

A mix of these approaches is best practice. Our recommendation rests on matching the project type with the appropriate justification method. This avoids the problems of a one-size-fits-all approach to justification. Table 13-1 describes the classification of projects and the approach to justification. [Pg.171]

Note that the maturity matrix applies to any project work conducted in the organization, not just supply chain projects. Other project types could include new product development, information systems improvements, facility additions, and incorporating acquisitions into operations. [Pg.180]

New theories or frameworks need to be developed to identify patterns within or between industry sectors and product development project types. Several attempts have been made in the past, while new challenges have also emerged. In this chapter CE has been described as an innovation system aimed at generating a production system that is capable to sustainably produce the new product envisioned. The production system is often also a complex system of collaborating companies, for example in a supply chain. Based on this view a framework has been proposed that can be used to describe CE processes and its resulting production system for farther analysis. Examples of innovation in the food industry have been presented, which show that several innovation systems may co-exist and interact. In addition, specific properties of food production systems, in particular integration and coordination, have been presented that need to be taken into account when developing a production system. [Pg.48]
