Inhibitors, effect

Other Useful Information Obtained by Probes Both EIS and electrochemical noise probes can be used to determine information about the reactions that affect corrosion. Equivalent circuit analysis, when properly applied by an experienced engineer, can often give insight into the specifics of the corrosion reactions. Information such as corrosion product layer buildup, or inhibitor effectiveness, or coating breakdown can be obtained directly from analysis of the data from EIS or indirectly from electrochemical noise data. In most cases, this is merely making use of methodology developed in the corrosion laboratory. [Pg.2441]

In the hydraulic transport of solids through steel pipelines, inhibitors of the sodium-zinc-phosphate glass type have been shown" to be effective. In the case of coal slurries the polyphosphate type was rejected because the de-oxygenating action of the coal lowered the inhibitor effectiveness. Hexavalent chromium compounds at 20 p.p.m. were more effective". ... [Pg.797]

Fibrinolytics. Figure 4 Inactivation of plasmin by a2-plasmin inhibitor Effect of fibrin. The inactivation rate of free plasmin is very rapid (the second order rate constant k 430 104M-1s-1), while of fibrin bound plasmin is slow (the second order rate constant k 1 104M"1s"1). Inactivation of plasmin in the figure is shown in arbitrary units. Abbreviations plasmin (P), fibrin (F). [Pg.505]

Both sodium and potassium polysilicates are used in formulations of these types, and it is critical that products containing two (or slightly more) molecules of silica to every one molecule of sodium oxide are obtained to ensure adequate long-term inhibitor effectiveness. [Pg.398]

Several calculation methods for establishing reaction kinetics from the scanning DSC results are discussed in the literature [91-97]. Kinetic constants can be obtained from scanning DSC tests under favorable circumstances that include (1) the availability of a sample that even in milligram quantities is truly representative of the process material, and (2) kinetics that are uncomplicated by multiple reactions or by the presence of autocatalysis or inhibitor effects. [Pg.58]

Libraries of hundreds to thousands of spatially separate inhibitors have been prepared and screened to identify small molecule inhibitors of the human protease cathepsin D and the essential malarial proteases, plasmepsins I and II. The best inhibitors do not incorporate any amino adds and possess high affinity (Kj<5 nM).1241 Furthermore, these lead compounds were optimized by combinatorial methods for good physicochemical properties and minimal binding to human serum albumin. The optimized inhibitors effectively block cathepsin D-mediated proteolysis in human hippocampyl slices and are currently being used to evaluate the therapeutic potential of cathepsin D inhibition in the treatment of Alzheimer s disease. Additionally, the plasmepsin inhibitors serve as promising leads for the treatment of malaria. [Pg.72]

The knowledge of the mechanism of action is required in order to synthesize more effective inhibitors. Effectiveness refers to the ability to act increased degrees of undercooling. Environmental considerations have also motivated the search for biologically derived inhibitors instead of synthetic ones (Kelland, 2006 Zeng et al. 2006b)... [Pg.38]

A variety of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthylidine (and 5,6,7,8-tetrahydropyrido[3,4-3]pyrazine) derivatives have been prepared and reported as HB-EGE shedding inhibitors - effective against a variety of human skin diseases <2003BMC433>. [Pg.747]

Several studies published since March 1996 have expanded the list of in vitro integrase inhibitors effective at IC50 values below 100 pM. These include two dicaffeoylquinic acids obtained from medicinal plants and a synthetic analog, L-chicoric acid [68], the HIV protease inhibitors NSC 117027 and NSC 158393 [69], certain anthraquinone derivatives [70], coumermycin, and pyridoxal phosphate [71]. In addition to exhibiting in vitro inhibition, the dicaffeoylquinic acids effectively inhibited HIV-1 replication in T-lymphoblastoid cell lines [68]. [Pg.112]

One approach to combating antibiotic resistance caused by -lactamase is to inhibit the enzyme. See also Enzyme Inhibitors. Effective combinations of enzyme inhibitors with /i-lactam antibiotics such as penicillins or cephalosporins result in a synergistic response, lowering the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) by a factor of four or more for each component. However, inhibition of /3-lactamascs alone is not sufficient. Pharmacokinetics, stability, ability to penetrate bacteria, cost, and other factors are also important in determining whether an inhibitor is suitable for therapeutic use. Almost any class of /8-lactam is capable of producing /)-lactamase inhibitors. Several reviews have been published on /3-lactamase inhibitors, detection, and properties. [Pg.110]

In addition to substrates noted in Table VII, 3 -AMP, 3, 5 -cyclic AMP, dATP, dADP, dAMP, ADPribose, ADPglucose, 5 -adenosine monosulfate, 5 -adenosine acetate, 5 -adenosine propionate, NAD, FAD, CoA, and nucleosidin were deaminated at appreciable rates. Deamination of ATP was inhibited by orthophosphate, pyrophosphate, triphosphate, and Fe3+ with adenosine none of these substances were effective inhibitors. Effects of other divalent cations were not reported. [Pg.75]
