Mixed Effect Inhibitors

The glucan synthase inhibitor caspofungin (intravenous formulation) is new on the market for the treatment of invasive aspergillosis in patients whose disease is refractory to, or who are intolerant of, other therapies. During the clinical trials fever, infused vein complications, nausea, vomiting and in combination with cyclosporin mild transient hepatic side effects were observed. Interaction with tacrolismius and with potential inducer or mixed inducer/inhibitors of drug clearance was also seen. [Pg.134]

The PL-catechin conjugate showed greatly amplified concentration-dependent inhibition activity against bacterial collagenase (ChC) on the basis of the catechin unit, which is considered to be due to effective multivalent interaction between ChC and the catechin unit in the conjugate. The kinetic study suggests that this conjugate is a mixed-type inhibitor for ChC. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme which catalyzes hydrolysis of hyaluronic acid and is often involved in a number... [Pg.242]

The mixed-type inhibitors combine the effects of the competitive and noncompetitive inhibitors binding at the active center decreases the affinity of the enzyme towards the substrate molecule and also decreases the rate of transformation of the bound substrate. In their presence, the straight line plots intersect in the fourth quarter of the Lineweaver-Burk plot, according to equation ... [Pg.325]

Controlled studies of higher doses of venlafaxine, which inhibit both norepinephrine and serotonin uptake, show efficacy in pain. Duloxetine, a mixed uptake inhibitor soon to be marketed, has similar effects. SSRIs, however, are not effective for chronic pain. [Pg.682]

The best non-chloride admixture to date appears to be calcium nitrite marketed as a 20% solids solution, it can be readily added to the mix using the usual dispensers. The admixture has therefore been more readily accepted by the ready-mixed concrete industry than the formate-based admixture. Strength development effects produced in concrete are reported to be comparable to those obtained with calcium chloride [40], Table 7.12 shows a comparison of the results for concrete containing calcium chloride, calcium nitrite, and no admixture. In addition to the improvements in both compressive and tensile strengths, calcium nitrite is an effective inhibitor of chloride-induced corrosion. The material is now finding wide acceptance in bridge and parking deck repair. Other non-chloride accelerators used in Russia and special applications include the alkali-metal carbonates (Na CO, K CO, LiCO ). [Pg.329]

Equations 43, 44, and 45 tell us that at a fixed inhibitor concentration, increasing the substrate concentration (a) decreases the degree of competitive inhibition, (b) has no effect on the degree of noncompetitive inhibition, and (c) increases the degree of uncompetitive inhibition. The effect of increasing [S] on the degree of inhibition caused by a mixed-type inhibitor depends on the interaction factor, a. In the usual case of ct > 1, the degree of inhibition decreases as [S] increases at a fixed [I]. [Pg.271]

Corrosion inhibitors. Corrosion inhibitors may in principle improve the protection of the steel reinforcement. Mixed-in inhibitors added to repair mortar may increase the chloride threshold or delay the chloride penetration in the repair material. Migrating inhibitors appHed on the surface of the original concrete are intended to reduce or stop corrosion and thus make concrete removal and its replacement unnecessary. The role of inhibitors and their effectiveness are discussed in Chapter 13. It is, however, useful to remember that if a corrosion inhibitor is used, the concentration that is needed in the vicinity of the reinforcement should be specified and suitable means for demonstrating that such conditions are actually achieved and maintained for an adequately long time should be proposed [11-... [Pg.340]

Although there are basic types of inhibition (see preceding section), in practice inhibition has mixed effects on multisubstrate enzymes and multiple inhibitors, and further classification is necessary ... [Pg.210]

Inorganic inhibitors. Usually crystalline salts such as sodium chromate, phosphate, or molybdate. Only the negative anions of these compounds are involved in reducing metal corrosion. When zinc is used instead of sodium, the zinc cation can add some beneficial effect. These zinc-added compounds are called mixed-charge inhibitors. [Pg.836]
