Felt-tip pen

If a solution, precipitate, filtrate, etc., is set aside for subsequent treatment, the container must be labelled so that the contents can be readily identified, and the vessel must be suitably covered to prevent contamination of the contents by dust in this context, bark corks are usually unsuitable they invariably tend to shed some dust. For temporary labelling, a Chinagraph pencil or a felt tip pen which will write directly on to glass is preferable to the gummed labels which are used when more permanent labelling is required.

Besides its use in cast resin, such as methylmethacrylate mixtures, P.Y.16 has gained recognition as a colorant for felt-tip pens, water colors, and a number of related applications. It lends color to leather, mass and surface paper coloration, and paper pulp. 

Materials white construction paper, alcohol, nail polish remover, felt tip pens and markers, food coloring, small dish, small juice glasses or jar, toothpicks... 

Black felt-tip pen or black water-soluble marker piece of porous paper, such as paper towel, table napkin, or coffee filter solvent, such as water, acetone (fingernail polish remover), rubbing alcohol, or white vinegar... 

The saturated calomel reference electrode, the platinum counterelectrode and one or several working microelectrodes are placed directly on the skin surface, without adding water or gel. The saturated calomel reference electrode is connected to the skin by a felt-tip pen used as a Luggin capillary. The distance between all electrodes is less than 1cm. 

Try separating the colors in felt-tipped pens. This can be done by coloring a circle about the size of a dime with the felt-tipped pen on a strip of paper towel and then placing the strip in the bowl of water as before. 

Other fields of application are the pyrotechnics industry (pronounced sublimation tendency of the dyes), the office supplies industry (inks for felt-tip pens, oil-based stamping inks), the lacquers industry (especially coloration of transparent lacquers on aluminum foil), and the cosmetics industry (approval restricted to a few products).

Prepare a 500-ml filter flask to receive the potato extract by pouring 250 ml of F O into it and marking the position of the top of the fluid in the filtration reservoir with a felt-tipped pen. Pour out the F120. Suspend about 100 mg of phenylmercuric nitrate in a few milliliters of H20 and pour it into the filter flask. Phenylmercuric nitrate is added to inhibit other enzymes and to prevent bacterial growth during the incubation of potato phosphorylase with starch. 

Enclose the gel in a piece of plastic wrap and place it in a film cassette. Using a felt-tipped pen, mark the film in a manner that will allow you to determine position of gel on the film after it is developed. Expose the gel to a piece of Kodak X-omat film for 18 hr at — 70°C. By exposing the film at low temperature, radioactive scattering will be minimized, giving you well-defined radioactive protein bands on the autoradiogram.

Separation of the Colored Inks from Felt-Tip Pens... 

Even a simple thin layer chromatographic separation of the various colors in felt-tip pens shows the power of this analytical procedure.

From day 9 after fusion and every other day afterwards up to 4 weeks, the dishes are inspected for clearly visible colonies (not simple clumps of cell debris). A colony can be marked on the bottom of the dish with a fine felt-tip pen beneath the colony. Isolated colonies should be at least 0.5 mm in diameter. They are removed... 

The front side of a TLC chamber should not be marked with a felt-tipped pen, as it is often forgotten to remove this marking when the chamber is cleaned after completion of the development. 

Diabetics have traditionally been forced to perform self-injection, so auto-injectors have been developed for use in this area and look like a modem felt-tip pen. Quantities of insulin can be pre-set by turning a knob on the pen which has features including an audible click, clear resistance prior to each dose and a visual indication on the scale thus helping to eliminate dosing errors. Quick and easy dosing is possible with such systems. Auto-injectors are marketed by a number of companies under the following tradenames Novopen , Novepen II, NovoLet , Optipen II and D-Pen . Pressurised needleless systems are also now available. 

Other large volume applications for cellulose acetate fibers are filament yarns for ribbons for decorative packaging and tows for ink dispensers for felt tip pens. Cellulose acetate is used in nonwovens and in paper processes as staple and short-cut [87,88].
