Double-faced tape

Instead of using a single layer of adhesive, tapes with two layers of adhesive, which can be of the same or different type, have also been constructed. Here, a thin film backing may be used as the central layer of the tape, with the adhesives coated on each side of the backing. This type of tape construction is commonly referred to as a double-stick or double-faced tape. [Pg.520]

Samples of microspheres were mounted on aluminum specimen mounts by means of double-faced tapes. The microspheres were fractured with razor blades to expose the internal matrix. PVC Pressure-Sensitive Tapes. Formulated PVC plastisols are used in automotive applications. A pressure-sensitive adhesive-coated closed-cell PVC tape has replaced butyl glazing tape in some glazing applications. Other applications include automotive, trucks and trailers, mobile homes, steel building erection, metal door gasketing, and sound deadening. A section of the epoxy sample, approximately 2cmx2cm, was removed from the bulk and mounted onto the XPS sample stage. The sample was mounted with the "titanium" side facing down, by way of double-sided tape. Thus, the "composite side" was analyzed. For emulsion tests, polyamide-coated terephthalate plastic plates are attached powder-side down by double-faced transparent tape strips to the undersurface of the lid of 9 x 1 cm Pyrex Petri dishes. The plates, 2x3 cm, are cut from standard 20 x 20 cm polyamide-terephthalate plates used for thin-layer chromatography. They are Polygram - Polyamide-6 UV254, procured from Macherey-Nagel and Co. through Brinkmann Instruments, Inc., Westbury, N.Y. The metallic layers were examined either by conventional or cross-section TEM in a Jeol 200 Cx microscope. For the cross section preparation a sandwich of two laminates is made, glued face to face with an epoxy, cut in small pieces, mechanically polished, and then ion milled to a final TEM observation thickness. The plane section TEM sample are prepared by dissolving the PET in trifluoroacetic acid for 5 to 10 mn. The area observed, on plane section TEM, for the grain size calculation is close to 0.2 urn.
